octavia 1 vrs head unit change

Featured Replies

i wanted to change my standard head unit for an after market motorised tv/dvd combo my only queery is: does the standard head unit control any of the other functions on the car? i know some cars use the radio for power supply or other to auxilary components on the dash and i dont want to take mine out if its going to bugger it up and make some things not work.

if its just simply a radio and it wont bugger anything up then thats great il change it tonight :D

thanks

Nope, you should be fine in replacing the stock unit. You'll need an aerial booster and there's not much space behind the headunit.

Remember to swap over the Permanent B+ and switch B+ wires or you will lose your settings every time you turn off the car.

ok cool thanks, yeah i expected the wires to need swapping over was the same for my old vectra.

why would i need an ariel booster??

I think there is a booster on the stock unit which enables a good radio signal, an aftermarket booster retains that. If you are not a big radio listner then you can live without it. They are only Β£7 from ebay.

any idea what colour the cables would be?

Blue I think

both are blue?

The aerial booster cable is usually blue or blue/white. The switched live and permenant live will be different colours. Generally the permanent live will be a thicker cable than the switching live I think. Most aftermarker headunits will have the permanent as red and the switching as yellow but a lot of the time the cables have bullet connectors so that you can just swap the loom on the h/u round rather than having to move pins in the ISO connector.
