Electrical fault on fabia Vrs

Featured Replies

A couple of days ago my passanger side electric windows & mirror gave up the ghost

The window has worked once since but now appears to be completly dead. Checked the fuse and it's fine. Any other thoughts before I take it into the dealer?

Is that still dead now or working again after keys removed from ignition, door locked? There appears to be an odd gremlin in the Fabia (I've had it on both the ones I've owned) where the electric window & mirror controls all swap over and go odd. When you lock up the car, however, it seems to reset itself and get rid of the gremlin. Happened about five times on the old Fabia and once on the vRS.

The 04 vRS demonstrator I tried today had non-functioning electric windows, mirrors and interior door locking switch! The dealer never mentioned these, so maybe he does not know about them, although he said he used the car every day.

Could this be a gremlin in the so called CAN Bus, described in the brochure as "....a data bus that ensures co-ordination between systems and reduces the amount of wiring"? I'm not sure whether this CAN Bus is connected to mirrors/locking switch/etc. Does anyone out there know?

The convienance system does use a can bus network.

Take the car back to your dealer if they are still inop, havent come across it yet on the vRS. The convienance system has quite a good self diagnosis function, so they should be able to locate the problem pretty quickly.

Try this:

Lock the car with the 'zapper'

Unlock the car with the key and hold the key in the unlock position - the front windows should go down.

Lock the car with the key and hold the key in the locked position - the front windows should close.

You may find that the windows etc. now work correctly.

This procedure often resets the car's little computer brain!

If not, then I'm afraid that you will have to visit your friendly dealer.
