Poor mpg....

If your engine is warm after 3-4mins, that indicates your style of driving so no wonder you're getting 40mpg

My type of driving???

I certainly dont boot the car when the engine is cold or i'd be totally wasting my time bringing up a thread about poor mpg would i not????

Ian:)

i'm getting between 30-40mpg according to my computer. i think fuel filters may need changed, the air filter is not very old.

Aye, think i'm going to change the fuel filter too.

I'll be in for those badges sometime this week Keith:thumbup:

Ian:)

the vrs does seem to take forever to warm up especially in this weather,i think between 40-47 mpg is an accurate guide.:)

I can see his point though, mine takes a good 15 min to warm up, as does most cars i`v owned unless u thrash them from cold.

Ian,

Seeing as we were talking about this on Friday when you were round..

This morning.

18 mile drive, mostly A1/A720. No higher than 75mph, and never really dropped below 50mph, this returned an "indicated" 57.8mpg.

Am getting nowhere near that Johnny!!!

Must be those dodgy alloys ! :D

Take em back. ;)

Mine is remapped, dunno what difference that would make, also longer gearing.

MIne has averaged 47.69 mpg over 8181 miles based on fuel consumed.

Clonked my vRS in the snow.. leading up to it, the few days before, my MPG dropped a little bit and also lost the edge (just a little) when on boost..

Mechanic called me saying "I'm not sure how, but you've knocked an intercooler pipe loose.. did you notice loss of MPG or performance becuase it could of happened before the bump"..

Apparently it's not all the way off, just loose so maybe check your pipe work?

p.s. at your leather!

.

I'd try the fuel filter, as already suggested ;)

Checking all the intercooler pipework is a good idea...........or changing them :P lol

lol i had a slight leak at the intercooler pipe (underside) MPG did improve slightly

i really dont know how people get 55+ mpg, even nursed beyond belief the best ive had is 50/51

Totally agree wih you mate

Ignore the computer.

Fill the tank every time.

Calculate MPG brim to brim for several tankfuls.

If you get better than 47MPG I'll be well impressed.

my fabia was showing 43 mpg, but calculated it manualy and it was 37mpg!!

As the title says really, my 05 plate Fabia vrs with 60k on the clock seems to be losing a bit mpg lately. My commute to work is about 4 miles of A roads and about 17miles of motorway but yet when i get to work and check the trip computer my average mpg is 45 MAXIMUM, sometimes less. Surley it should be better than this?? I dont drive the car hard, on the motorway i sit at 70-80mph.

I contacted my local Skoda dealer who said that if i havent got any engine management come on then theres nothing to worry about. If theres no management light come on then theres no faults????? I'm almost 100% sure i was getting alot more mpg out of my older vRS.

Can anyone shed some light on this??

Cheers, Ian:thumbup:

Hello,

My Fabia VRS 2005 38,000 miles, has always hovered around 45 MPG, roughly 10 miles per litre, since new. I can beat it or take a quiet drive, has only a marginal effect.

Have regularly (yearly) changed air/pollen/fuel and oil filter with oil change on a service.

There is a decent difference between the fuel computer on my car and reality. I've been using spritmonitor.de website for the last 6 weeks or so as a test. My car will regularly report 60+ mpg on my journey home, but in reality recording the actual miles done between fill ups, over the last 1600 miles I've averaged....

Which I'm very happy with, my car is remaped.

I have been getting 57.5 mpg on a 15 mile (down hill) run to Sheffield. That includes a few motorway junctions and a dual-carriage way and a few miles of town driving. You are lucky to get over 70 mph on the motorway with the traffic. I would think its about 47 mpg against gravity the other way. Assuming the trips are accurate?

I get roughly 550+ miles to a tank works out to 57mpg normally

90mile round trip to work mainly motorway with fast A roads...steady cruise with a few brisk moments.

I have seen 65mpg on a few trips!!

I get around 550 miles to a tank usually, this is a mixture of small 2 mile journeys, and a 20-mile journey with a mixture of A-roads and town roads.

Obviously a 10 gallon tank, so 55mpg ish, I don't work it out exactly, or run it on fumes. Computer shows around 59 mpg.

I don't drive slow, briskoda mentality, I can't turn down the opportunity to surprise the mini cooper drivers at the lights.

I get 60mpg on a decent journey, most I had was the other day, 69.8mpg 20 mile journey, and I even ragged it a few times too.

It's gone up by about 7mpg on average since I had the last service (2 year), so perhaps a service is in order for you guys. Also, don't labour the engine, being in a higher gear isn't always best, spend a few days finding the right gear for the right speeds by watching the instant consumption.

I wonder if there's a difference in MPG between pre and post 2005 cars. After 2005 Skoda changed the ratios on the gearbox didn't they so 6th gear was shorter and punchier. Does that mean the car could sit on the boost at lower speeds?

I have to admit to being underwhelmed by its real world fuel economy, which had been a big factor in buying the car. Trip computer is always saying mid 50mpg's on journeys, even silly numbers like 60-70mpg when being very easy.

But to be honest brim to brim figures I have never really got beyond 45mpg, regardless of fuel (supermarket, big names, premium diesels) and I don't drive like I stole it! I reckon it would do 50mpg on a long motorway run but combined just isn't that impressive in my opinion.

But then you can't moan because a similarly performing petrol car would be low-mid 30 figures - but then again diesel ain't cheap.

I manage to get 72.9mpg (computer) last summer over about 1.5hrs in my 1.9TDi. First 20mins down the lanes then the rest sitting behind lorries on the M5 at 60mph! Completed the whole 3hr journey at a tad under 70mpg. Can't usually get much more than 45mpg on a normal run though!
