Skoda Warranty for Alloys

Featured Replies

Is it me or are Skoda's oem fit alloys utter ****e.

I had a Fabia VRS. Less than 2 years old, small areas of three alloys start to delaminate.

A mate had the same thing on a 2 1/2 year old car.

I have a 2 year old Octy 2 VRS. Washing it this weekend (as I do almost every weekend) I find a very small area on one of my alloys doing the same thing :thumbdwn:

The alloys are always treated with Autoglym wheel cleaner and properly dried afterwards.

My friend with the Fabia reported his to his dealer and he didn't want to know.

Does anyone know the party line and what I should be able to do about it or is it a lump it as far as the warranty and getting Skoda UK to pay for the repairs??

Cant say I've had this problem personally, but worth checking for sure.

this stuff is quite acidic iirc and maybe causing it, if not then not helping things, id avoiding saying what cleaners you've used when you speak to skoda as they may just say your fault for using acidic wheel cleaner.

As said on your other thread, it's the acidic wheel cleaner you use getting under damaged lacquer and causing it to come unstuck and peel off.

I had this on a 9N Polo and VW said it was brake dust causing it, and that it was under warranty. They also said had it been stone chip damage it wasn't under warranty. Due to the fact they wanted the damaged wheels to go back to factory for examination, and that they would fit temporary wheels to my car, I told them to stuff it.

Avoid alloy wheel cleaners like the plague, most dissolve the lacquer coating over time. Giving the alloys a coat of good wax is the way to go.
