Odd stuff in the oil

Just a little dampness (water) that reacts with the oil. I'd give it a little wipe. A little bit is normal due to the cold. As long as the oil looks 'normal' when you look in the filler hole, nothing to worry about.

If it gets very bad, then I'd get it checked, but as said, that kind of amount is no problem :)

cheers - thats what i thought. the oil via the dipstick is fine

all chuffed with myself as actually got hands dirty, removed engine cover (heck of alot of pulling to do that) and replaced stock ait filter with piperX one (cheers hofmeister!!)

Probably nothing to worry about but just keep an eye on it and check your coolant level isn't going down, which would suggest a cylinder head / head gasket problem.

That is common if a lot of short trips were done.

Drive the car warm, and do a longer stint on the motorway (>30minutes) and it will be gone.

Yours looks fairly minor, and pretty common when cold/car used for lots of short journeys.

For a really bad example of the same problem, see here...

If yours starts to look like this, you might have a more serious problem!

I worried about mine very recently, it was worse than yours but not as bad as the above post.

Took it to a trusted independent and he agreed with other posters that is was a bit of damp caused by the cold air. I don't do many short journeys but the car does sit through most of the week in the garage and that was allowing it to build up.

I check again the other day and it was gone.

Incidentally my oil was needing topped up, have you checked that?

Yeah, I concur with everything said here. That yellowy stuff is a sign of water mixing with the oil which as wega says would probably likely signify a blown head gasket, but it's such a small amount I wouldn't worry. Just give it a good run and it should be fine.

If you find it building up regularly then it's worth cleaning out the breather pipes and filter if there is one as the stuff seems to build up in there once it's started accumulating.

Strangely enough, I posted on just the same thing in another thread. Same applies!

this is what i get on the dip stick but once cleaned and stuck back in its not so bad. the water doesnt look contaminated (still pink) and not going down. oil looks ok when you take the filler cap off but with a bit around the filler cap itself.

Im gonna take it for a good run at the weekend and see how it is then, but its only done it since its been really cold and nearly everytime ive checked it its been cold and then engine hasnt been running (still cold).

checked the oil today after a good drive round, still have some of this stuff on my dip stick but not around the oil cap.
