Aftermarket stereo in VRS problems

Featured Replies

has anyone heard of problems with fitting a aftermarket stereo in a fabia I have bought a new Pioneer one fitted and it worked fine then after a few days of driving with it over about a week it started acting strange randomly crashed while playing music from my iPod then next morning wouldn't even turn on sent back replacement worked fine for same sort of time and now got in car other day all still working but vol control which is a rotating joystick button on the model isn't working at all stays at same vol. I trust the shop its a very reliable make and model not a single fault reported online that I can find.

Costs me new £9 a go to send them back ..... standard radio working fine in car but only concern is the old flickering headlights bit mine do it but not as much as some and when standard radio is in you can see the same power drain effect on idle on symphony radio display when back light is on anyone heard of this problem frying radios ??

Have you confirmed you are correctly connecting it?

be sure to swap the red and yellow cables if you haven't. Pioneers have bullet connectors on the loom for easy swappage. Other than that no clue. had 2-3 pioneers in the past and never had issues!

Had an alpine media one in mine for months without issues atm... apart from it being a bit pap

yea first thing i did was swap them over with them when i took out of the box but either way that shouldnt make any big problems like im receiving would only alternate the source of the power into the unit loosing the perm 12v source for the mem wire :(

But have you confirmed using the pinouts of the radio you removed that they match the pinouts on the radio you installed?

Maybe if you have flickery headlights the voltage is up and down too much for the new radio.

yea I always check first have standard ISO plug on it but as you know they are not all made to the same standard despite the coupling itself ....... :(

Sounds strange. I installed a Pioneer stereo this past "summer" with no issues, and it still works great, so no specific compatibility issues with a Pioneer branded stereo as far as I'm aware. Sorry I couldn't be more help, I hope you get it sorted. Which model is it?

its the PIONEER DEH-50ub great lil unit if it worked lol rear 2m USB cable for Ipod and full iPod control threw its lile joystick vol control thingy on front

I've had this a few times with VAG cars at work - coming in with odd problems with aftermarket radio's in. A few of the cars i've found have 1 switched and 1 perminant pin in the Iso like its ment to in the opposite place to where it is on the aftermarkert radio so it needs the red and yellow on the loom swopped. but what i've also found is 3 other setup's in various VAG group cars.

1st alternative:-

There is only 1 perminant live and no switched live - meaning that both red and yellow need to be fed from the yellow wire.

2nd alternative:-

This is the one i've been finding more of recently - the wiring is as its ment to to be, but the power on the switched line fluctuates between the normal 13.86V down to 8v when the radio switches into safe mode. I've tried several different ways of finding how and why this happens but always drawn a blank - what i've found is to run a new switched feed off the fuse box (normally the heated washer jets)

3rd alternative:-

We were working on a mk5 golf with a weird fluctuation in its voltage and it wouldnt even let the radio switch on. had to send it to VW finally and they diagnosed a faulty charging relay!
