Ignition: OK I have done my searching the forum and found lots of people with jamming ignition switches but mine is sort of the opposite, there is no return action from the 'start' position, so you have to manually turn the key back once the engine starts.

Any simple fixes or does it need a new barrel?

Gearchange: There is just so much free play in the gearchange, you can stir the shift around in huge circles when in any gear. Are there any simple bushes in the actual shift mechanism that can be replaced?

the answer to both those questions is yes, if you search on ebay you should be able to find the bush kit for the gear linkage
