HELP !!! Im not a happy camper

Featured Replies

Just back from holiday and the passenger side footwell front and back is pi....wet through...im gonna get in touch with my dealer about it (Horners of Bury), anyone any suggestions as to what it could be before I do ???

I think there might be a drainage hose which can come loose?

Chris

It will be either the air con drain tube partially or completely blocked or ill fitted so the condensation doesnt exit the bottom of the vehicle or it will be the pollen filter/housing.

Im betting with the recent rain its the pollen filter or the housing. Its usually either the filter or water guides are incorrectly fitted or the housing isnt sealed to the body, the housing maybe damaged.

The reason for seeing the water in the rear first is the floor pan slopes backwards and the rear of the carpet is alot thinner than the front so it come through that first. Make sure than when they cure the leak that they remove the carpet (Warranty may well renew carpet if it smells of stale water but its upto individual cases) and remove all water. Its also adviasable to check over the crash sensors for the airbag system. They mount n the floor under the front seats and quite often get very wet in these cases, I havent seen one water damaged as yet but I allways check.

And both of the above problems are very common on all VAG vehicles on this platform.

Have you a sunroof if so check the drain holes from it common fault on a lot of cars.

Thanks for your suggestions Ross, I will certantly mention it to them when i take it in, and im also gonna push for NEW carpets

I had trouble with my Octy vRS from new letting in water. The carpets got soaked. The dealer traced the problem to the back door (I think the water draining from the window seals was being directed to drain inside the PVC film somehow??). Carpet have remained bone dry since, but I am still suspect of the door seals on both passenger doors. I have noticed water resting on top of the door seal, near the footwell, on both front and rear door openings.

The back window fogs up very quickly in the wet while driving, which makes me even more suspicious.

... would welcome any tips

We had a month in Cornwall, then we was home for 3 days, then up to Dingwall for 11 days..... hopefully, we off again in about a fortnight (if I get car sorted out)

Had an escort that had a similar problem many moons ago and discovered that a bung had fell out.

My Colt had a problem with water leaking into the boot from a welded seam, filling up the spare wheel well.
