1.4 TSi DSG

Featured Replies

Having read that the 1.4 TSi 122bhp facelift will be available with DSG this month, does anyone know if this is applicable to all of the model grades or will it be reserved for the range toppers only ?

The tech spec bit of the brochure says S, SE and Elegance

And it might be woefully slow too.

With 122bhp it will be reasonable I think.

there's another thread that discusses the performance.

it's not slow (I've driven the manual version) as it has c.150 lbs of torque delivered in a wide band from about 1500 rpm. Obviously its no vRS, but irt's not competing with that. Most reviews comment on its responsiveness

122bhp is perfectly adequate for this type of car bearing in mind not only its performance figures of 125mph & 0 - 62 of 9.7secs. but also 44.8 mpg combined & emissions of 147g/km.

The best of all worlds including automatic transmission - well a twin clutch semi.

I agree Bassa. for most purposes this is all the car you'd need. Itseems to delver agood mix of performance, driveability and economy at an afordable price, with relatively little compromise in each area.

Like you, I think this engine/gearbox would be great in the Fabia!

At 122bhp, it's the same as a normally aspirated 1.8 petrol, so perfectly normal for a family hatch, surely?

With the added benefit of better mpg and lower emissions.

Although the TSi designation appears to signify both turbocharged (T) and supercharged (S) it is, in this case, only the former and is used in the VW Golf SE. The VW 1.4 TSi unit which is both turbocharged and supercharged produces 160ps is used in their Golf GT. It produces the same maximium bhp as the Octy's turbocharged only 1.8 TSi but with improved mpg and emissions.

I did say "might be". I drove a Roomster with a 1.6 (petrol) and DSG and it was not funny. Granted that's no TSI but it's a similar weight of car I think..?

The turbo will have a better pull at lower (medium) rpm, and being of smaller displacement, I imagine small turbo = instant response.

The Roomster & Fabia Hatch 1.6 Tiptronic is not a DSG but a conventional torque converted automatic. There is no DSG version. (at present)

With only one difference. The 1.4TSI drives figure eights around the NA 1.8 petrol car.

And as already written here that the engine will give the maximum torque between 1500 - 4000 rpm's. 200Nm's of torque between those rpm's is pretty good I think. :)

Of course, it's got much more torque!

But I was merely countering the suggestion that a 1.4 would be inadequate in such a car.

At 0-60 in 9.7 seconds it's only 0.1 seconds behind a Fabia vRS, not that slow after all eh? ;)

Most things aren't far off a Fabia vRS ;)

:D I knew I shouldn't have ventured in to foreign territory.

The same engine is also used in SuperbII and Passat and they both are fast enough with this engine.

Apart from a mention in the new Octy brochure that this DSG version will be available in February, there appears to be no other official details as yet. On checking one of the car brokerage websites this new to Skoda 7 speed DSG, according to them, is a £1085 extra whereas the older 6 speed costs £1134. Does anyone have confirmation of the new 7 speed's cost since it appears strange that something newer costs less than the older version?

1.4TSI sounds like a great engine from what I've read.

It's got an air-to-water intercooler which is pretty cool!

Gets rave reviews in the Golf.

Gone and done it!

Ordered the Octy Elegance 1.4 TSI DSG without a test drive! Demonstrators of this model at present are rarer than rocking horse droppings (ie. non existant) so I tried the Golf TSI DSG and the Octy facelift 1.9 TDi manual. Never bought a new car based on such a strange test route - but that 1.4 TSI linked to the DSG really is something quite special - good performance, impressive torque figures of 200 Nm from 1500 to 4000 rpm, band C VED and 45mpg combined.

Only a 12 week wait too !

well done...u got yourself a good car...

TSi is used for any direct injection petrol engine using forced induction now.

You can also get a 140ps Twincharger engine in the Touran (Golf plus also iirc).
