Retrofit Maxidot - Information for dealer?

I know there have been a few threads on here about retrofitting a Maxidot.

A while ago I spoke with my local main dealership and verbally I was told they would be happy to give the installation a go.

Before taking the plunge and actually buying a Maxidot I decided to drop them another line and confirm - here is their response:

Although the process of retro fitting the maxi dot initially seems quite simple I know of problems encountered with steering control units not recognising the new display.

In your email you say you have information on fitting the maxi dot, would it be possible for you to forward that information on to me along with your registration / chassis number so we can try and offer a clearer answer.

Whilst discussing this with our master technician we also questioned whether

your wash / wipe stalk would be compatible?

If it is a case of swapping over the units and coding the new one to the

vehicle and no extra work involved then an hours labour @ £79.50 plus VAT

would be the correct charge.

Sorry I couldn't offer a simple answer but its always difficult quoting for

things like this with many different variants of vehicle and parts.

With regards the other questions - has anybody written a "How to" guide on how to retrofit Maxidot?

If so - please can somebody point me in the direction of it.

If not - can somebody who has been through the process just give me basically the information I need to pass on to the dealer.

Oh and the question on the Wash/Wipe stalk - again, can anyone who has fitted or had Maxidot fitted confirm/deny possible stalk issues?

I wrote a guide for VCDS but it's not really applicable in your case.

All they need to do is follow the cluster swap in VAS GFF and they'll be fine. Make sure you take both keys.

No issues here. My Maxidot was retrofitted and worked nicely (after some initial problems in the swap process itself ).

No problems with the stalk.

As Stu says, all they have to do is follow the procedure for a dashboard replacement as though it was a warranty job for a duff cluster or similar. Other than that, there's nothing to know.

Hi, this is an upgrade I am looking at for my vrs, do you know how much the actual maxidot costs?

Mine was around £260 delivered I think. Much more from a dealer.
