I've had a Favorit that I bought as a runabout, for about six months. However due to a few different reasons it has been sat still for about 2 or 3 months now.....I started it up now and then and let it run for a bit and it never failed to start but I never actually moved it.

So today my Octavia has started what seems to be the beginning of a brake/wheel problem (funny burning smell nearside rear) so I went to get the Favorit going and guess what.......nearside rear wheel totally seized.

The problem is after taking the wheel off Haynes says there should be 4 screws in the front of the drum, in between the wheelnut threads, to take that off. There aren't any on mine and I was stumped so I put it all back together.

I remembered I've got a Skoda UK workshop manual for an Estelle (I've never actually had an Estelle though), so looked in that and it appears you need to remove the wheel hub with a special puller jig on those.

So is it possible my Favorit (K Reg GLXI) has these Estelle type drums and is it possible to get them off without the tool?

Or have I got something totally different?

try levering up on the wedge key on the brake shoe adjuster mechanism through one of the wheel bolt holes, that should release the shoes from the drum

The drum brakes on 93 onwards models are improved and based on vw polo drum brakes i think. For some season Haynes updated the fav manual to cover the revised car but missed out the rear drum brakes and i'm sure one or two other things. The felicia manual is probably best to buy if you need the step by step guide. But to be honest all it is is a case of removing the grease cap, the split pin out retainer and nut with washer and bearing the drum comes off and it's not too difficult. If seized it may take a bit of banging and as mentioned above lifting up the wedge adjuster through the wheel bolt hole in the drum (need to feel for it, it has a spring at the bottom of it and it's at the front.)

Just one question.....how does the grease cap come off....just pull it?

The drum and bearing carrier are one unit so you have to remove the bearing cap and strip the bearing out to pull the drum off. If it is just the shoes stuck to the drum, leave the wheel on and give it a clout with a copper hammer, the shock should telease it

you will probably need to bash it off with a cold chisel and a hammer, or lever it off with a large flat bladed screwdriver

As Rigsby says, before you do anything precipitate, give the drum a clout with a copper hammer (or protect it with a piece of wood and use a ball-peen or claw).
