Roomy Tyre Advice

Featured Replies

Looking for some tyre advice, I`m running a Roomster 1.9tdi, 56.plate,I was just browsing out of curiosity for tyre prices on the web, the tyres on my car are Michelin pilot,I think, which on nearly all sites seem to be the most expensive of all makes, ranging from £105.00 - £125.00. per tyre, now I know michelin are supposed to be good, but,£420.00. - £500.00. for four tyres seems bl..dy expensive to me, especially when I could get Dunlops, Firestone, or Bridgestone, for about, £70.00. - £80.00. each approx. at one time you were not supposed to mix Michelin and other makes on the same axle, which I would`nt be doing, but would put two on front first,as they wore out, then replace backs later,so, has anyone used other tyres, recommendations greatly appreciated.

Also, going off on a totally different tack, were off to Spain in April, driving from Bilbao, to Valencia, then down to Marbella, never having been on Spanish motorways before, are the service centres actually on the motorways, like in England, as we went to France last summer, and had to continually leave the M.ways, as they were not actually sited on them, we have to be in Valencia by about 5.pm. and dont dock in Bibao until 8.am. so do not want to waste any time looking for grub,!!!. Thanks.:)

I would put your rear Michelins on the front wheels and new tyres on the back. This will minimise the time you have mixed rubber. For some reason the Dunlops I had were always picking up nails but I've always found Bridgestone and Pirellis to work well. There are lots of posts here about the best tyres for a Roomie if you look around.

Most Spanish service stops are on the motorways or very close to them. Not all of them are as well appointed as UK ones though (dont all have a proper restaurant).

Enjoy your trip though. Bilbao to Valencia in a day is quite a treck!

I take it these are 205/45r16?

The OEMS will not be Michelins so if you have them then they have been fitted after. I can't honestly rate them even if they were cheap, I have had nothing but grief with Michelins whenever I have had them fitted.

I currently have Falken 912's fitted all round and I have found them to be excellent in all situations. I have had the OEM's and F1s on mine and so far the Falkens have been the best all rounders. The best bit is you can get them fitted for £60 a corner ;)

You can also get T1r's fitted for about £80 a corner and Pzero Neros fitted for about £85 a corner.

My roomster 3 on a 07 plate came with michelins from the dealer when we picked it up new!

i know they are pricey but i've not had any sort of grip problems with them in 25,000m and will be replacing them with the same

I stand corrected!

Trust me, you can get much better for the money

I swap front to rear so all four wear evenly, then change four at once. I've not needed to do the Roomster yet, but my last Nissan cost me £360 for a set of Michelins. Coincidentally the mileage was 36,000, so I paid 1p per mile. That works out nearer the rate for screenwash fluid than anything else. I don't see the point in skimping on tyres.

Most of the service stations are either on the motorway or on a junction and vary a great deal in quality but tend to be a long way apart. One thing to remember is that at most of them you have to pay for fuel before you fill up.

Take lots of europennies for the tolls.

Make sure you have a high vis vest in the car - compulsory now and el police are a bit hot on pulling foreign cars.

Bilboa to Valecia in the time you have is pushing it - it can take a couple of hours to get off the ferry and on to the motorway.

If you are not in a rush from Valencia to Marbella use the main coast road rather than the motorway - long drive either way.
