Rear Wiper Motor and Aero Wiper

Featured Replies

My rear wiper motor has stopped working and I will try and get one from a scrap yard. Is the motor specific to the Fabia Hatch or will one from another VAG car fit e.g VW Polo? I don't think i will get one from a dealer, sorry stealer, as they charge £85.

My second question is will a new rear aero wiper arm from a Fabia II fit this motor? I have read on here that one from a polo fits.

Although the motor/gerabox is the same, there is an internal printed circuit board which is different. If you know it's the motor that's gone and the circuit is ok then you could swap them over.

Thanks for that. When I operate the switch the motor sometimes gives a kick up and very occasionally does a full sweep, so the motor may be OK. How can I diagnose weather it is the circuit board and/or gearbox or the column switches?

gearbox - is the motor still running when the wiper arm stops?

circuit board - probably by substitution, or someone with expert pcb knowledge, there is a chip on the board.

Wiper switch - cicuit diagram and multi meter, or compare/swap with a known good motor. I would try one of the breakers on ebay, I got one for £20

Thanks for that. I think the motor does stop when wiper stops.

I wonder if the switches were faulty would the rear wiper do a sweep when you put the car in reverse with the front wipers on? At the moment mine does nothing.

Also where on e-bay did you get the wiper motor/gearbox so cheap?

There is a slider type switch on the gearbox wormwheel (a brass cicular strip) which can get clogged up with solidified grease. This is the switch that tells the circuitry when the wiper is in the parked position, could be worth checking. I got my wiper from a bloke just selling one, but there are always scrappers on there, or try:

cars dismantled by Roadside Rescue for all your skospares

My rear skoosher seems to have broke as the water only goes half way up the rear window.

Is this a problem with the motor? :(

Could be any of the pipe connections (there are 3 to check, a search will show lots of info on this), or the centre tube that runs inside the wiper shaft may be busted. I think there is a repair kit for this available for the Polo, not all that expensive.
