i replaced the fuel filter on my friends A3 and it was at the rear, infront of the back wheel.

thats defo the fuel filter in that pic

Haynes says that the fuel filter is mounted on the inner wing, above the right hand wheel arch. The accompanying picture is of a filter similar to but not the same as the one in Post 4. QED

When I replaced mine (04 vRS) it was where the picture shows. Take the clips of the hoses pull them off making sure you have some tissue to catch any diesel. Then a couple of clips hold the filter in place.

Really easy job.

Of corse the pic in post 7 is the part in post 4 lol.

Just to clarify, that is the fuel filter

Specsavers?

its on under the bonnet on the drivers, the thing underneath is a fuel cooler

Job done :)

What a difference too :D

I got a hell of a lot of power back I love it...

Also before the engine had a constant drowning noise which was scaring me but after I replaced the fuel filter I sorted the problem and my old one had fell apart inside lol... I did however replace it with one without a drain bit but oh well does the job :)

Diesel fuel filters are under the bonnet, petrols usually by the tank.
