Sky Insurance / Renewal in general

Featured Replies

Hi guys

Why do companies fail to beat last years price, especially when a years NCB has been earned.

I was paying around £895 (can't remember the exact price) last year with Sky insurance, my renewal is £891 this year- that's the best they've come back with.

Elephant (and Admiral) / HIC are both around £590 which is more like it.

Why do they make it so hard :thumbdwn::(

Sky said the insurance they have MIGHT match Elephant but why go through the hassle when I can just get insurance straight away from them at that price. Sometimes going specialist just isn't worth it I guess.

When you get down to it, it is the rising cost of premiums.

People claim all the time which keeps premiums high and with the current financial climate the insurance companies have to make a profit somehow so you won't see your insurance go down year on year as much as you would have done say 4 or 5 years ago.

If you've only earned one years NCD you won't see it go down by much anyway, you need at least 3 years in the bag before it really starts going down - and with only one years NCD that must mean you had an accident recently which will load the premium.

I'm in the same boat as you - I recieved a renewal price of £960 which was only £40 less than last years premium despite having earned 2 years NCD (I had a year from my old company last year but the new company didn't count it so this year it's gone from 0 years to 2 years), and I also now have my IAM. I have been shopping around for the past week, the usual companies recommended on here (Flux, Chris Knott, Brentacre) and none of them could get it cheaper than £915, which, when you add the £45 insurance premium tax, is the same as my renewal price anyway! Also they were quotes based on a £250 voluntary excess whereas my excess at the moment is £200.

Some of the "mainstream" companies such as Admiral and Elephant came out a lot cheaper...around £850... but then when I asked them about paying in installments the price went up to over £1000. I would check that's not the case with the cheaper quotes you have mentioned.

Hi,I noticed on here that you said about adding Insurance Premium Tax to the quotes etc. As far as I'm aware your quote from us should have that already included in the price you were given. If you would like me to look into it then please PM me your Surname and Postcode.Dan.

Excellent, HIC quote was "no mods" even tho I said I had them. Rung back up and the quote has shot up to £900.

Elephant apparently don't even do mods, so that's out the window too.

Looks like a saving of sweet fa this year.

Might try Adrian Flux, although they weren't too low for me last time.

:(

Dan - the Flux quote came out at £966 - I've PM'ed you.
