Turbo hose problem

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've been having running problems with my mk1 Oct Vrs, it drives fine around town at a normal pace but when you put it under load it splutters/coughs and struggles to accellerate.

I've had it checked out and the diagnostic comes bad as a "bad hose to the turbo charger"

I've spend a few hours today trying to find this "bad hose" but all in vein.

Is this a common problem?

Any help would be much appreciated

Skillo

I'd just check everythings clear from the start of the intake down on the front bumper (Drivers side) behind the little plastic grill all the way round to the Turbo if I havd that BUT I'm sure more experianced people on here will have better suggestions.

Sounds as if you may have a minor leak on one of your hoses which does not become evident until boost builds up pressure sufficient to open up your split. I had a similar issue and the easiest way to track it down was to have the car on a rolling road and give it some beans while listening out for the leak.

Hi,

Coming back from the intercooler i've checked the small hose that connects to an alloy tank, then a 90 degree hose with a silver heat shield on the other side if the tank, then another hose with a heat shield on which connects into the the top of the turbo (well i think it's the turbo)

There all ok!

Hi,

Just thought i'd mention that one off the fault codes it came up with on the diagnostic check was........ code 17705 turbo throttle valve connection presure loss

Don't know if that means anything to anyone

The 90 degree bend hose that you mentioned with the heat shield has caused the 17705 fault code to appear on my vrs. On the uppermost end, nearest the turbo, it is sealed via a double lip seal. This had started to leak under boost and caused the fault code to appear. As well as the leaking dv, but thats another matter!:(

Might be worth another check?

Using the search facility is usefull as this fault code is well reported on this forum.;)
