the dealer has told me that he's going to fit the parking sensors for me instead of them being fitted in the factory as it will take an extra 4 weeks to get here otherwise! 4 weeks to fit some parking sensors!

When they are fitted in the factory do they use the same bumper and drill the holes in?

Will they be the same if the dealer fixes them? or ones from Argos?

I'm worried that they'll mess it up and then I'll have to reject the car :(

Factory fitted PS are fitted in bumper below the rubbing strip with the sensors colour coded.

Dealer fit PS are fitted in the rubbing strip....still colour coded as sensors and rubbing strip and black.

Subjective really.....both work...just depends on how you like it to look.

Mine were dealer fit and have no problems with them.

have you got any pictures of what yours look like? do they look less noticable in the rubber strip?

the dealer told me they *would* look the same!

The dealer fit ones look ok on the hatchback, but on the estate the rubbing strip isn t big enough, so you get 3 (or4) black sensors (which imho look naff) in the bumper.

The sensors can be colour-coded (ie painted) to match the colour of the car. I would be quite happy to have the Skoda parking sensor kit dealer-fitted to my car.

On the subject of parking sensors , how well do they work?

Do they tell you to stop when you are still some distance away , or can you get down to a couple of inches from the obstacles?

They beep when you've hit something!

From my understanding they beep more the closer you get to something...

do they work all the time or only when the car is in reverse? Get alot of tail gating round here!

The beeping increases as you get close to an object, becoming almost continuous just before you hit it.

I'm assuming they pick up a feed from the wiring from the reversing lights, so they will only work in reverse :)

The new Octavia can have acoustic parking sensors fitted at the front as well. And very useful they are too for optimising road usage in heavy nose to tail traffic.

Hi,

I have been considering this for a while since SWMBO dinged the rear bumper twice in one week after we had only had the car 6 days!! (should have had them fitted at the same time as the cruise control).

I have been balking at the

Yep, I got strip-fitted sensors (3) installed by my dealer (Farmers Skoda, Leics), when I took delivery of my 2002 2nd owner (notice, I prefered not to say "2nd Hand" ) Octy vRS. They work fine, although I believe that the speaker is in a different place to that of a factory fit. It is difficult to hear with the stereo up (hit pause), but I wouldn't go back to not having them :D

I think they set me back

mine installed by the dealer,no problems at all.

My Octavia RS reversing sensors were fitted by a CZ dealer in the rear bump strip they look fine, you can have a look on Sunday at trax.

The senors and unit are a Skoda accessory.

the only think that i'm concerned with is the dealer 'pulling the car apart' to fit them. Is it a bumper off job to do it?

I know when ever I've messed around with the interior of my old car, its near impossible to get the plastic trim to fit properly. But then I'm not a pro!

another thing, will this be covered by the 3 warranty?

Accesorries have a 2 year warrenty I believe, although I dont think you would have any problem under the circumstances that you ordered the car with them, Skoda should cover them I would have thought for 3 years it would be being petty if they didn't. If you are worried about it ask the delear to ensure they are covered for the duration of the warranty

I have the factory fitted ones, and the start with a long beep getting shorter and shorter untill you get a contiuous tone at about 8 -12 inches away, I wanted to put mine on a switch, but when i asked dealer about it he said now way can it be done, looks simple enough to me to do, break wire to bleeper and put it through a switch, but dealer said it will invalidate warranty, its a pain int a$$ when i have caravan on reversing and a continuous tone goin off

seen them today and I think they look better in the bump strip, apparently the dealer fit on allow you to turn them off and also change the pitch!

i read somewhere (i think) that you can change the volume/pitch of the factory kit as well but i cant remember where i read it.

mines got the factory kit, one thing i have noticed, its made my reversing lazy.
