Seems a good price compared to the VW/Skoda USB interface that would cost about £150 including the USB connection.

If you have a cd changer you've lost use of it.

Wouldn't be too bothered really as I'd be looking at hooking up a reasonable size USB hard drive - not quite sure if it would be as easy to connect as they say it is.

If you really want a good usb interface the way to go is with the Columbus/Bolero and the MDI with a usb cable, especially if your going to connect a large hard disk

This is correct, and even though you can connect an external HD the big issue is with navigation. These units typically assign a playlist to each of the 6 CD selection buttons, the playlist must be built in advance on your computer. You dont get any ability to navigate the folder structure on the HD itself from the headunit, you can just navigate up/down 6 playlists.

With the columbus and bolero you can get an MDI kit that allows you connect an external HD, with this you get full functionality as if using explorer in windows. The columbus also has its own internal 30GB HD which you can store a lot of CDs on.

Can the MDI be retrofitted? Im looking at the VRS LE at the mo, and as its a company car I want to buy the mdi separate, so I can sell it on after the car goes back.
