How does my bush look?

Featured Replies

Getting a knocking noise. Took it to the mechanic, he heard the noise, had a look and couldnt find anything out of the ordinary. I got bored and jacked the car up and noticed these bushes with a bit of movment when rocking the wheels. Could these be the culprit............

The yellow arrow show the movement when I rock the wheel backwards and forwards. My photography leaves alot to be desired

Cheers guys

Oh Er Missus :D.

How many miles has the car done ?.

Quite possibly, They are a common fault, but in the other Pic, There does not appear to be any evidence of the Wishbone hitting the edge of the console bush..

Yo can replace those console bushes with the Leon Cupra ones, Which are not voided.

Have you checked the drop links & Anti Roll bar Etc ??, Gearbox/engine Dogbone torsion mount ??.

Cheers

Do you get the thunk when setting off after having come to, not an emergency stop, but an abrupt stop?

Mine went and this was one of the most common situations to cause the thunk.

Mine went at 50k on my first Fabia, and my current Fabia has done 52k.. and guess what's started happening ;)

.

My bushes look worse than that and my car has just turned 40k lol lol lol Gettin them done soon n i'll post a pic lol

Defo the bushes packed in..............

Cool vid. Thats what mine look like when i push the wheel. Checked the ARB - looks rusted and fliaking, but solid. Same with dogbone, solid. Just play in the ones posted. Start/stop doesnt make the knock, just bumpy roads.

Maybe try a different mechanic??

just found out its my drop links.

Time to get the spanners out....

those bushes look ok in the pics , when they are really gone they will be split where the inner joins the outer part , the only other thing to worry about with them is if they go soft and allow extreme amounts of movement at the wheel , some movement is normal due to the design of the bush

This thread is so not what I expected to see

Yes, a bit disapointing really, still, maybe next time!

Oh, and dfullb, that quote "use Leon Cupra" bushes should really read "use Ibiza Cupra" bushes.

Actually, I've heard that you CAN use the Golf V bush - but you need to cut the aluminium ring off it first - so that should mean that you were sort of right as the later Leon bush should be the same - but I'd reckon the simple way of using the Ibiza Cupra bush is cheaper and better - I think that the Golf V etc bush elements are still voided but have four web "links".

Woo HooOOOoo, 1/2 a point each :D

What will you spend yours on ??

Cheers.

Buy a £20 bush, cut away half of it, then whack it in when an £8 bush would have done the job better anyhow.

Makes sense to me..lol.

Probably get 50p back on scrap value for the aluminium ring though!?!
