Ok, I've Got One For You

Featured Replies

Sounds like a worn out driveshaft

Slow turning it doesn't sound at all

Hard turning from stop it clacks only when turning right

Hard turning while in motion, no clack

If I read it right it sounds like something is detatched and bouncing against another metal part to create the noise when the engine is getting the body moving.

Any ideas?

cv joint?

cv joint?

Hm, I'm not sure, wouldn't that make noise at slow speeds as well?

cv joint?

That was my first thought and it does sound like one.

And that's the reason I've asked this question because I would think it would clack all the time and at any speed if it is the CV joint as well, I'm wondering it it's the anti roll bar banging about, have to get the wheel off the ground and have a good look underneath later.

Thx anyway fella's, oh btw Foxy I got prices for one at GSF the other day, £32 for a cheap one and £71 for a good grade one, not sure if they were including vat or not but I think they included the cabby discount card they do.

just had a cv joint replaced on my 2.0 tdi. the joint was £92.36 and the gaitor kit was £24.23.

If that was parts only bud, go to GSF next time, they slice up list prices and the parts are as good as genuine ones ime.

thanks for the advice. car expenses are all tax deductable for me and the place i go to uses genuine parts so im not too worried about paying a bit extra. was a bit surprised at the labour charge though, £144/3 hours.

£30 for the part, car parts for U, £25 labour fitted at Ford dealers

Bolts working lose on a the drive shaft. Had this on mine and was similar, until the drive shaft dropped out on the way back one day.

Is it the main hub bolt, i.e the one behind the Skoda centre cap?

Can you see them or does it need the boot to be unclipped?

You can see them - 6 each side.

Would agree also maybe CV joint or those d/shaft bolts.

Well I've had a look and I can't see anything wrong under her, the flanges and the nuts look to be all the way in, checked the wheel nuts incase it was that and the wheels are home tight, so I guess it's the CVJ after all, I'll wait a while and see if it gets worse, but my understanding was when one is shot they clack at any speed on full lock.

Thats correct i remember once had a noisy one on a MK2 Cav diesel and that went on for thousnads of miles. Was still like it when i got rid.
