Broken wing mirror

Featured Replies

Last night i managed to smash my wing mirror. The unit itself is still intact but the glass is wasted. Does anyone have an idea of how much it will cost to be fixed?

Also a while back I managed to knock the other wing mirror, its ok but when you move the joystick, the glass slightly jerks, again how much may it cost to put right?

The glass is a piece of cake to change, it just pops out, iirc they cost about

:rubchin: Should I mention the bad news that ETKA gives the price as being over

Would a mk4 golf mirror glass fit?

You could economise by fitting a plain rather than heated mirror. A 2002 Golf shares the same part numbers (less the prefix) for like-for-like wing mirror glass as the Octavia, eg 1U2 857 522B for the Octavia and 1J1 857 522B for the Golf. That said, you will need to consult a Skoda delaer to identify the right glass for your wing mirror before trying to find the VW equivalent. Or just take a drive to a scrap yard and look for a suitable one.

Would it be possible to transfer the heater bit from the broken one to a plain one, its just stuck on isn't it !

mine got broke and yes indeed it does cost nearly 50 quid and no you can't transfer the heater bit, if i remeber right it kinda like the heated rear window, just shiny :)

but personally i think that if you alreadt got heated then no chance i would replace with non-heated, takes a small part away from the car

anybody else here run their mirrors heated nearly constantly like me?? i find rain water runs off them quicker and ofcourse never get a problem in cold wheather

I was thinking more along the lines of going to a scrappers, find an octavia/ mk4 golf/leon with a heated mirror and just unclip it. Just wondering if the mirror unit is identical to an octavia?

might struggle to find one mate, genereally if they do get trashed one way or another then they end up at proper breakers rather than your dirty scrap yards sadly

I dont suppose someone can point me in the right direction for a vw breakers in the north west?

Depends how far your willing to travel....

Best place in the sort of north-of-manchester region I'd go with is a place just down the bottom of Pimhole Road in Bury.

It's not just one scrap/breakers yard, although at first it only looks like two or three.......just to the right you can go down a track and there are many many more.

There are at least TWO that focus on VW. I sourced a drivers side air vent for a 92 Passat - cost? If I could find the part I wanted, and had my own screwdriver, I could have it.....

If you can't find it in one of those scrappies/breakers, then it was probably never made in the first place......... :D
