Headlamp converter

Featured Replies

As my inlaws are French, I do a fair amount of driving in France. I used to have a pair of plastic headlamp covers, which clipped over the whole light fitting and avoided the need to put sticky bits of tape over the main beam (and then forget to take them off!) These cost about £30, as I recollect, and came from a Skoda dealer. I've now broken one and the dealer tells me that the part is no longer available. I just wonder whether anyone else knew of a way of still getting them or something similar.

Incidentally, we've just bought an Octavia Estate and I would like to get the same thing for that, as well, if there is any way of doing so.

As always, any help would be really welcome and much appreciated.

I believe Halfords do universal continental light kits.

Many thanks, MoggyTech. However, staff at my local Halfords don't know anything about them and a quick look on their website didn't show up anything like what I mean (i.e. plastic 'shields' which fit over the whole lamp unit (and, incidentally, protect it.)) Any further suggestions would be welcome and thanks again for this.

Interesting that they dont sell them any longer

You could go for headlight protectors instead perhaps, and then fit the taped sections on those yourself from thereon.

I'd best make sure I dont abuse mine too much then I guess :(

I have a Halfords set you can borrow if you want me to post them ?

I should have a set in the car, but I'm amazed they dont sell them any longer tbh -thanks though :)

I bought a set in September from my local dealer (Grey Gables Garage, Bampton, Witney) for £30 or so. Only used once, but planning another trip to EU later this year so I'll need them again. Surprised that they are no longer available :thumbdwn:

A sincere thanks to everyone who has read and replied on this topic (and demonstrated, once again, how really useful this site is.) A very particular thank you to Johnny50 for the kind offer of a loan. In fact, I need something long-term, so might try ringing dealers on the off-chance that one might have some still in stock. Thanks again, everyone.

Skoda still do them according to their online accessories catalogue: ?koda Accessories

Hidden away under their about skoda/merchandise/accessories section.

Related point: it is illegal to drive in France without headlamp convertors but Euro drivers can drive legally over here without them and dazzle us....why?

Paul, to be honest, i've no plans to be driving abroad, so if you do need them, you can just take them.

I'll just add it to my list of favours owed. ;):)

PM me your details if you wish.
