Fuel Economy ??

Featured Replies

Hi, could anyone give me realistic fuel figures for the 1.4 tdi fabia estate?? based on town driving, i have a Vauxhall zafira 1.6 doin 30 mpg and i'm thinking of changing. just not convinced of the diesel/petrol argument yet?? any help would be great!:)

In town expect high 40's to mid 50 MPG maybe even a tad more, very frugal engine.

Thanks for that, i trying to work out wether the economy was worth the extra cost of the fuel, i do about 5k a year.:) seems like it is!!

I had a 1.4TDI hatchback for almost 3 yrs; drove 42,000 miles in that time and kept accurate fuel figures since the car was knew. It was a very good car. Last summer I averaged a true 56mpg which went to a tad under 54mpg in winter weather with winter diesel. These are accurate figures that are a mix of rural with some urban miles - I dont sit in many traffic jams.

If you are only doing 5,000 miles a year in urban driving I would not recommend a diesel; the engine will not get to full operating temperature - diesels take longer to reach full engine temperature that do petrol. (My 1.4TDI took a good 5 miles in winter weather to get to operating temperature). For your situation I would definitely go petrol - be aware also that the three cylinder 1.4TDI is VERY noisy at tickover and low revs - its fine at decent road speed but it would not be my choice for low mileage urban driving. Hope this helps.

All the best
