Skoda octavia I cam belt tensioner & roller problem

Featured Replies

Yesterday strange noises started coming out of my car, mostly happens while idling or shifting gears, I consulted know garage and they checked and said its the tensioner and roller needs changing. Although I am ready to change the entire cam belt set and water pump, my only worry is

can I drive about 29 more miles with these whistling noises.

What if the tensioner is left slightly loose so that I return to the mechanic for repairs.

This vehicle is my only livelyhood, so I need to take this car to a better workshop tomorrow can I risk and drive it, the belt is healthy?

I'd not chance driving it, having destroyed the head on an XUD when the tensioner allowed the timing belt to slip and a piston went into a valve hard enough to break the camshaft and bearings.

And yes, if the tensioner needs changing, I'd do the whole cam belt, tensioner etc set. The water pump I might leave, depending on when it was last changed.

Thank you so much for your reply, I did change the following

cam belt kit

auxiliary tensioner/belt

now the alternator has also been changed,

just 2 days and now the radiator fan is showing off, There is noise from it and checked it and it moves front and back.. I dont know what to do I spend a fortune this week, can I know how the fan costs..

Dunno about the costs, but if you've got a car with aircon (either plane air con or Climatronic climate control), and leave the air con off / put Climatronic in "Econ" mode, the radiator fan(s) will only run when the engine gets activel hot (which won't be that often on a diesel IME).
