what were they?

I would imagine if they were coilovers it would be locking rings to set the height. If not, I am not sure.

after having another look in the search i found out that they were to go on the steering rack to prevent rubbing on full lock or something like that anyway.but the important thing is they are not needed!

yep , thats what they are for , PITA to fit them , hence the reason everybody says they are not needed

as you said, they restrict the lock on the rack to prevent rubbing/touching between the steering track rod and the front ARB under extreme loads
