heavy steering

Featured Replies

hi folks,

ive got rid of my felicia 1.3glxi and got myself a bargain felicia 1.3lxi (50quid!!!). it only cost me 10 quid to get it through a MOT but the problem is this; the steering is REALLY HEAVY. the old felicia was pleasant to drive but this one is like driving a soviet tank!

ive checked tyre pressures and condition and they are all ok. Can anyone offer me any advice for this problem please:confused:

what size tires do you have... the LXi doesn't have power steering, maybe the old GLXi did (mine is a GLX and does not have power steering)

i've sat on 165 and 175 tires, and there is a diference in steering, not much, but i notice a resistance, wich i belive would be bigger if i fit 185 or 195 so maybe you have some 205 tires on it...

if it's not the tire's width then maybe the dust cap on the steering arms are damaged, letting water in, making the system rusty (inside the steeing linkage)

if its really heavy, then it could be the power steering pump has failed. if its only heavy whilst parking then maybe your previous car had pas and this one doesnt.

are you comparing one with PAS to one without??? i think power steering was optional on the lxi
