engine swap

Featured Replies

hi i was wondering what other skoda engines will fit the skoda rapid 130 gear box?

ive heard the favorit will go straight in an poss the felicia is this true?

hopefully some one will have more info

Yep, the 1.3 135 and 136 lumps will bolt straight up. So will most VW engines of that era if you get an adapter plate from the 1.9 Felicia. :)

Excellent so the felicia will go striaght in!!? do well!!!

Sorry for being bit dum but where do i get an adaptor plate lol

any engine within reason will fit with an adaptor plate (any good engineer can make one) but don't go crazy with the ponies as the boxes are weak :)

iirc the fav/felicia engine sits at a slightly different angle in fwd guise, so the intake manifold is at too steep an angle and causes float chamber overflows on carb models

cheers for the info i'll look out for a felicia lump i think.

has any one on here put somthing tottaly different in a rapid?

engine and gear box?

i'm having an adaptor plate made for my 2 lire zetec at the mo, was toying with the idea of running it on throttle bodies but gonna keep the ijection 4 fuel economy, plenty of power but just need 2 keep a spare box hany for when it blows lol!

 it's not a case of if, it is 'when'

A hewland box would probably be a good idea if you are transplanting alot of power in the rear. I have a close ratio 4 speed skoda box with near to 130 bhp and have not had too many problems. I use reverse detent springs on all gears and some extra engine and gearbox mounts to stop the whole thing twisting round under power, otherwise the car comes out of gear.

Obviously if you have alot of power and use it you need to rebuild the box regulary (not too hard a job).

The felicia will fit, but you will probably need the inlet and exhaust off the rapide?

Im running a 2 litre Lancia Twin cam engine. Under normal road use i've had no problem with gearboxes. economy and reliability is what i've gained and a lot of people puzzled at the over taking ability.

Ive not long since done a Favorit/Felicia swap into an Estelle...Ive got a list of everything that needs to be done to make it work, but the main things to swap over are the sump and oil pickup and the exhaust and inlet manifolds. I think I posted up the full list on here a few months back if you have a search through. The whole thing can be done in a day without problem.

WOW!!! Thanks for all the info!!!

I shall search your list as the felicia will prob be the 1st thing i go for.

Then poss somthing new with more power!!!

:D

Cut and pasted for you!!! -

Ive put an engine from a Favorit GLi into an Estelle 105.

You need to replace the following items on the Favorit engine with the Estelle version -

1. sump

2. oil pick up

3. water pump

4. crank pulley

5. alternator and mounting brackets

6. clutch

7. engine mounts

Unless youve got a carb Favorit with points ignition, you also need to change the distributor (I opted for a full Favorit electronic system from Jorily) and put the Estelle fuel pump onto the Favorit (you need to change over the studs as the ones on the Favorit engine will be too short)

You also need to swap the spigot washer thingumy at the clutch end of the crank for the bearing on the Estelle engine (or buy a new sealed 6202 bearing....less than a £10 so worth it!)

Last but not least, you need to tap off the ring gear on the outside of the Estelle flywheel and put it onto the Favorit flywheel by heating the Favorit wheel up in the oven first (having already removed the Favorit ring gear of course!!) and then tapping on the Estelle version.

You will also need to source an inlet and exhaust manifold.....Jorily sells both new but they cost. Ive opted for the good old banana manifold and Weber DCOE (I have a spare if anyones interested!). I believe the Favorit exhuast manifold can be made to fit and if you can find a carb Favorit the manifold from that will also work but it'll sit at a wierd angle.

I think thats everything......I reckon I could do the whole job in about 5 hours now if I had all the parts and tools to hand
