Octavia - MkVI basis?

Featured Replies

I'll be in the market for a capacious vehicle to replace the two we have now. Partly on cost grounds but also new hound to accommodate:)

The current Octavii are based, I think, on the Mk V Golf chassis. If so, is there any info on evolution to the Mk VI version?

Related question: is the CR 2.0 diesel yet available in Octavias?

Hope to hear more. Thanks.

the vRSeseseseses already have the CR engine, don't know about the others sorry and i thought(and probably wrong) that the mk6 isn't a new platform but more of a massive facelift :)

The 170PS 2.0TDI common rail engine is only available in the vRS model at present.

The current Octavia is built on the A5 platform shared with the Mk5 Golf amongst others. The facelift Octavia is just that - a facelift, most of the components and runnning gear are the same as before. The front and rear lights, dash and climate controls are the biggest changes. You would have to wait for the Mk3 Octavia (or whatever they decide to call it) for a totally new platform.

The Mk6 Golf should really be the Mk5.5

I think you would be looking at the vRS estate if the CR engine is what you are after.

From what I have read about the Golf MkVI it is just a heavily facelifted MkV, driven as much by making it cheaper to build as anything else.

If this is correct it will still be using the same platform as the current Octavia and A3.

Its given a new chassis prefix being a 5K iirc.

Its similar underneath but there are alof of subtle changes. Rear suspension have been revised as have the front wishbones and hubs. The steering system is now different (well it still turns the wheels) and safety has been increased with the addition of knee airbags etc. Doors etc have now lost the removable outer door skin and gone to the same regulator built into the door trim arangement as the new Leon.

It has improved on something that was pretty good to start with.

Thanks for the info! I don't think the VRS is what I need - although I'm sure its good:) I have the 2.0 Type S Honda. Didn't want the Type R for several reasons, one of which being the interest of the light-fingered swarm. Looks like a bit of a wait to see the 5K version then? If what is reported is correct - simpler to build, quieter etc - that's all to the good in my book.
