my first fabia

Featured Replies

i have just purchased my first skoda, an x reg fabia 1.4mpi. due to someone having the urge to pull out infront of my old car and writing it off (the git).

is there anything i should need to know about it before i start e.g. common problems etc. im very handy with a spanner so can carry out all work myself should it need it.

what sort of alloy wheels would people recomend as i dont want the normal steels on.

lastly whats the driving of them like such as the braking force (do i need to put bigger/vented brakes on or put disks on the back), accel force, steering response etc.

any help would be greatly appreciated

many thanks

Common problems- I'll wait till something goes wrong If I were you then have a looksie back on this site. Most problems are minor on Fabias, if a major fault you should have picked up on them before you paid for the car.

Alloys- Any wheels that fit Polos, Ibizas and Mk4Golfs will fit. For other makes ask for PCD100 hub fitting, very common across all the VAG fleet.

Brakes- No need to upgrade for alloy wheels, your car wont be any heavier. Only needed if your having a more powerful engine.

i was just thinking about brakes because ive had cars before which have been seriously under-powered in the braking department. here are some pictures of it, it was in a slight crash before i bought it so it was nice and cheap and im doing the work myself to keep the costs down

Looks like mine <3 Yours is the Classic spec though right?

yea thats right, got it for £750 with 40k miles, it needs about £250 spending on it to make it road worthy after its crash. thinking of some compomotive TH3 wheels in grey to put on.

Have you got a front bumper for it?

yea but its got a crack in it so im going to try and fix it if not ill buy a new one and paint it.

am i right in thinking that its candy white? if so does anyone know the colour code for it?

erm.....the bonnet, grill and headlamp are coming tomorrow, shouldnt need anything else but will keep here posted with the progress and any bits that i may need.

how much are you thinking for the bumper? assuming that its in good nick.

would like peoples opinion on these wheels, the colour may be darker in real life.

from what i can remember they drill the holes to match your specs this is done when the turn the offset onto them, we had some made for our rally car.

Thats fine, just as long as you didnt think you could get the off the shelf

pah of the shelf cost so much more lol. but saying that i dont know how much there going to cost.

from experience, you may need a seperate budget for fuel... the 1.4mpi can be a thirsty wee bugger... driving at 60mph will get you 500+miles out of a tank (ive managed it) but at town speed/traffic levels... low 30's in mpg are a good result
