Fitting a new head unit

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I'm picking up a Vrs tomorrow (very excited), but I don't think the symphony head unit is going to cut it??? I was looking into buying a new alpine (ipod) headunit and was wondering if anyone has any experience of these (fitting/reliability/where to get one cheap).

All comments welcome,

Rich

you'll find its a tight fit at the back but you can easily cut out a small piece of plastic which wont affect anything, and it will fit a treat.

oh and you may have issues with your remote central locking if you get the incorrect adapter (not a clue which one is correct sorry) or you can simply cut a cable(someone will know which one it is)

and for sourcing one try www.caraudiodirect.com

Alpine's fit without the need to cut anything normally as I have managed to fit mine and an ai-net lead without cutting any part of the dash.

It is definately worth removing the dash box when fitting the HU as it gives so much better access.

Another thing to note though is that Apple have changed the way the charging works on iPods so you may find an earlier ipod capable headunit will not work with 2008 iPods onwards. (I found this out with a KCA-420i).

You will need an aerial adaptor/booster like this: Car Audio Direct - Aerial adaptor - Fitting Adaptor

The end will depend on what connection you have on the headunit.

As mentioned it is a little snug behind the headunit.

The tray underneath the stock unit has gaps in it where you can feed the ipod connection and then have your ipod sitting in the tray allowing you to control everything through the Alpine.
