speedo help, not the swimming gear!

Featured Replies

Hey,

The speedo in my car is working fine, but one thing that is getting on my nerves a little is the number placement. I know it shouldn't it's such a small thing.

The speedo points out 20mph, 40mph, and 60mph. The speed limits I go thou are 30mph, 50mph, and 70mph. (I cant remember the limit for motorway driving lol well I cruise at 70 not been told of yet)

How big of a job is it to get the template out from the display so i can scan it and print another. Is it more effort then its worth?

A lot of effort and I think it will look awful. That's my thought but it's certainly a project.

30 is exactly half way between the 20 and the 40 on the speedo!!

Thanks for clearing up where 30 comes ;)

When I said print another template I didn't mean on paper, I was thinking some kinda thin plastic, I could just delete the numbers I don't want and add the ones I do. Plus while I had it out I would look into switching the background light colors, In my Bora they was Blue made such a difference!

But if its to much effort to get it out I guess I'll bite my lip and deal with it.

One option to get the templates themselves in the sense of size at least could be: Interior : Skoda Tuning = superskoda.com

But it's expensive and that will be in KMH not MPH with kph as well.

I thought you meant print on a home printer...but still how will you get the blue to shine through the plastic......?

well this is just of the top of my head I could use them old clear sheets all the teachers used to use on them old fashion projectors. color it all in black and leave the numbers clear so the blue will come thou?

That will be a little weak I know but I'm sure there is clear sheets that will run thou my printer that I can then stick to firmer plastic?

edit: Thanks WW VRS I did notice them speedo's awhile ago. Thought they were alot of money for what they are, deffo if i have to deal with KPH =) the more i think about it the more i wanna get mine out and play with the design. I just don't have the know how or the balls to risk it. Knowing my luck I'd end up with no speedo.

I reckon your best bet might be to get the clocks from an old one / scrappy, and work out how to 'open it up'.

You never know, maybe Ross/Alex/Jason may have a spare one in their stack of stock, but otherwise a scrapped one would work - as long as you can get the cluster out, you can then experiment on the best way of opening it up and work out a template without having to mess with your car.

Then depending on how confident you feel, either do the job yourself or ask for some help on here and with some luck there will be someone nearish to you :)

hi all,

sorry if i seem to be hijacking the thread, but it is connected with the above.

in my furby, i don't really like the green lighting i have. is there anyway that this can easily be changed to the vivid blue that you get on VW badged cars - ie is it as simple as changing a bulb.

for info purposes, i have a 1.2 htp fabia on a 03 plate.

Get some little sticky dots and write on your speed. Then stick to your dash pod.

Hey presto you know where 30, 50 and 70 are.

C'mon guy, its not hard to see where they are. I wouldnt bother trying to print out another dial, way too much hassle

 why does everyone think I don't know where 30, 50 and 70 are. It just bugs me that there the main speeds in the uk and not on the speedo. I can deal with it =) .......................... just about

I've got some 1:1 scans of an SDi dash, about 2 meg in size. A reduced size one is attached. Sometime ago when I had to do a speedo face for a Japanese import, I printed it onto paper and laminated with a matt laminate and all the warning lights and illumination were adequate.

I also have photos of the warning light graphics, in all a folder aroung 60 meg in size of various Fabia dashborad photos/scans, similar to the photo below.
