Changing Front Discs/Pads on VRS?

Featured Replies

Hey guys, can anyone tell me how easy/hard it is to change the Front Discs/Pads on a Fabia VRS please and is a piston winding tool required like the rear ones? cheers.

Are you sure?

I thought you only need the piston winding tool for the Rear pads and not the fronts. You can buy a special tool to push the piston back or use a G-clamp, but I normally use a crowbar to do it. I will find out tomorrow as mine need changing.

The Haynes manual says you have to replace the guide pin bolt, but I guess it's only because of thread lock on them. What's the best way of removing old thread lock?

Hmmm crowbar eh. I'll remember that one

Now then : Why did they invent a piston winding tool for the back and not for the front exactly, let me think......

Are they calipers? Yes. Do they have a piston? Yes

I rest my case

You can buy a special tool to push the piston back

Made me chuckle

Something like this: Sealey Disc Brake Piston Spreader Tool or this CHT268 Disc Brake Piston Spreader

On previous cars I have used a crowbar with the old pads as packing. Obviously to do this, only remove one of the guide pins. The Haynes manual says to remove them both and the big calliper bolts to change the discs. You only need to remove the lower one if you are only changing the pads.

Oh, remember to take the brake reservoir cap off and, keep checking the levels.
