skoda audience amplifier

Featured Replies

Hi;

I am a retired skoda owner, and if I cannot sort this out I will be a retired skoda-owner!

I have an '05 Octavia with the "Audience radio / CD changer which has worked fine until the car went in for a problem with the lights, which were apparently shorting. New bulb. Everything OK until 2 days later I tried the radio /CD..No sound. No one can definitely confirm whether it is the radio or the amp, which is under the passenger seat. Skoda , having first said "it is the radio"...I do not believe it as everything else on the radio works...they now say they do not have the necessary test equipment and I can buy a new amp and try it!!

I have been to several independent auto electric firms who cannot check with their computer equipment.

The local scrap man says "Oh it will be the amp..they are always going"

I intend to find a second-hand amp and if I do, can I just plug it in myself, or is it more complex than that?

Anyone any other ideas? New amp costs £300 incl VAT, which seems a lot to me.Many thanks.Time-out.:)

Welcome. Please search or post in the Octavia section. I hope you get it sorted :)

welcome

Hiya.

For once I'm not thinking of pointing a query at Skoda Support, but rather at the ICE and insurance forum. That said, I also think your logic is correct based on what you've said

Are you sure that your audience has the external amplifier?.

How many speakers are in the front door, if their are only 2 then you have the audience headunit and no amplifier, which is the same setup as my car.

If you do have an amplifier, its possible that you have got an issue with coding. The headunit needs to be told that an amp is present, if no amp is present it will be using its own internal amplifier which would be connected to nothing. To remedy this you need either your dealer or someone with VCDS to code the headunit to use an external amplifier.

mANY THANKS; THERE ARE 2 SPEAKERS IN THE DOORS, AND A BOX UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT, WHICH aUTOSOUND IN nEWCASTLE TELL ME IS THE AMPLIFIER. tHEY CONNECTED A WORKING RADIO TO IT AND GOT NO SOUND,. Sorry..caps!! What is VCDS please?

Thanks..Time out

VCDS is the latest version of computer diagnostic software

I have the audience in mine, with the amp under the passenger seat, but mine has the 12 speaker sound system upgrade. Yours with just 2 speakers in the doors sounds like a normal 8 speaker setup.

I would still try the coding with VCDS even though that place said the amp appears to not work, then at least you will know for definite it is that.

Best case scenario is that the amp just needs finding by the hu as mannyo says, worst case is new amp, or I could sell you an excellent condition stream hu :D

Best of luck

Cheers

Many thanks Damian. I will approach my garage again (Not the Skoda dealer) and see if they have the VCDS. If we find it is the amp I will come back to you. Thanks again..Time Out:)
