Window mechanism broken - advice required

Featured Replies

We have a 2000 Skoda Fabia. When we were driving this morning I wound down the electronic window on the front passenger seat. We heard what sounded like a smash so assumed that the window had smashed inside the door (it was completely wound down). We have just taken it to Autoglass who have said that the window is not smashed but that the mechanism for winding the windows up and down has smashed (or broke) and we need to take it to a Skoda garage to fix it. In the meantime the window has been stuck so it is "up". Can anyone tell me a) where there is a good, not too expensive Skoda-fixing garage in the North London (Muswell Hill) area and B) how much it should cost to have this replaced. The Autoglass people said it should be about £75 but not sure. If anyone knows what the technical name for this mechanism is I would be grateful.

Thanks.

called the regulator IIRC. Replaced mine just recently - you could look up the door card removal on here and change it yourself - it's not too difficult a DIY....

Thanks for your reply. How do I look up the door card removal? Also, where would I buy the part? Will probably take it to a garage though.

do a search on here - technical guides has some info on door card removal. The part you want to replace is just under the door card and held in by either 8 (IIRC) screws or heavy duty pop-rivets.

I've had 3 of these go on my Octavia. My local non Skoda garage charges around £100 to change it (parts are about £60 IIRC).

You could look here and start ringing round:

Ideally you want a garage that has VW experience. They should be able to source the part (window regulator which is also the door ancilliary carrier) from a local TPS centre:

Trade Parts Specialists

The part should be around £80 and around 1.5 to 2 hours to fit.
