Hi guys,

As per the title really...really want a set of Audi TT Comps but alas, can't really make my mind up whether to go for painted or polished ones. Got my eye on a few sets of each.

I like both, and I'm aware the polished ones will take a bit more maintenance, so I guess it's down to looks...the car is a Graphite Grey 1.9TDi Elegance on Eibachs.

(Only painted ones I'm considering are the OEM silver ones, not into black or anthracite really).

Discuss!

I voted polished because from what I read on your post it sound like your going down the show car make it look smart kinda theme.

Hence I think the polished ones would suit best and the colour of your car very well.

Yeah, not wanting it to look like some sort of road racer...or chavvy/too blingy for that matter. So I thought I'd see where folk's taste lie

Also, feel free to have a look at the pics in my gallery thingy to see what I'm working with.

The car is my daily driver.

Phwoar! How'd you reckon they'd look on this?

The wheels on it in the pics are now in Northern Ireland.

Having run polished wheels on a couple of my old Golfs don't underestimate how much work you have to put in to keep them looking really good. Personally I'll never run polished wheels again, just too much hassle.

Have you thought about chrome powdercoat  - has the 'bling' and nothing like the work involved in polished wheels.

The question is, Does the council on Lewis salt the roads?

If yes I'd err towards painted

Alternatively use them purely during the summer!

Yes, and the roads are completely fecked anyway...but I'm moving to Glasgow soon.

My intention was to run them as summer wheels, get some standard Fabia vRS ones for winter :)

And I'm a detailing freak anyway, so it's all good...

Be warned the roads around Glasgow aren't to bright either, Square wheels anyone?

And FFS don't drive through to Edinburgh, You need a Chelsea Tractor to pick your way through town!

Having had polished tt comps on a daily driver for almost 2 years i would say go with painted. Those wheels are a nightmare unless you're going to be repolishing/waxing on a weekly basis!! Other option would be to laquer polished ones....

comps have to be polished, any other finnish just makes them look like a bland wheel:thumbup:

I've got fed up of repolishing with Autosol on a cloth and rewaxing every 5 days. SO they are going to be refurbed in either Smokey Chrome (M3 style) or chrome powdercoated. I've had a quote for both inc remove and refit the tyres at £240 or £380. Then I can forget about having the repolish them every few days. They may look amazing when polished, but i've now got arms to rival Popeye from all the polishing!

I've a funny feeling I actually would polish/wax them on a weekly basis :o However, is there a possibility that multiple layers of sealant/wax would prolong the time between polishing? Say, wash and seal/wax weekly, polish monthly? Apologies for probably sounding fairly clueless...

As I have a set of TT comps currently residing here for a refurb in Satin Black (the same colour as my current standard 16" wheels) i'd have to say painted

Ive got polished rims on my ZX9 but i only go out for a ride when its nice weather, and my standard vrs rims have started to look a bit rough in places and these are not polished, tt comps are a lot heavier than the standard vrs rims as well.

Hmm...so they'll probably be loads heavier than my 14'' Elegance alloys then? :(

Polished all the way! you put the effort in and you get the awesome finish of the polished look!!

tbh though mine look shockingly drab at the mo but will take them off and get back up to scratch!!

so yer! get polished!

painted, polished is cack to look after

Personally i would only go with painted, polished is way too bling for my liking.

Would be an absolute nightmare to keep clean. :thumbdwn:

Each to their own though, as i don't wanna upset anyone. :)

Heres some pics of the TT Comps currently on my Octavia vRS, painted of course.
