Rear wiper going all the time

Featured Replies

Hopefully someone can help me. I used the washer and wiper on the REAR windscreen on Saturday and then went for a drive but the wiper was stil going with the stalk in the OFF position, and resting in the middle of the screen. When I stopped, I wiggled it a bit and started up again but it was still going – sometimes 1 wipe stroke, sometimes 3 strokes and no regular gap between strokes – but at least it comes to rest in the normal place now.

After a bit of research on here, it sounds like it might be the positioning switch motor. Does this sound right? If it is this, how do I go about replacing it, or even better, fixing it. I found fixes for the front wipers, but not the rear. Any help much appreciated.

There's been a few previous postings about this. I had the same problem and it was down to the rear washer feed going through the motor casing having a leak. Once the thing fills the motor with water, the motor runs contiuously. The trick is to take off the plastic trim on the boot door and remove the 7 or so torx screws holding the plate on the wiper motor. You will probably get the water running out as you undo it. Clean and grease the exposed gearbox and find a way to seal the water feed. I used fernox plumbing seal from b&q and it's still ok after 3 months

Cheers Magic. I'll have a look at the weekend. I did have the washer on for longer than usual due to extreme windscreen dirt so maybe it popped something  Anyway, all part of the learning curve

Just as an update to this, I went out today and the rear wiper was behaving itself so I guess last weekend I'd flooded the motor with my over-exuberant washing, which made the switch go nuts.

Must have dried out over the week but obviously I still need to have a look at the motor and make sure the pipe hasn't split for next time I use the washer
