If One Were to Buy a 1.8T Elegance c/w Optional 17" Alloys and Sports Suspension

Featured Replies

Would one have to declare these extras as modification or changes to OEM spec when insuring the car?

Discuss...

No

Asked my insurers about this a while back and as they are optional extras and Ok.ed by Skoda as safe and suitable for the car there is no extra to pay

If in doubt, tell them.

Insurance companies have different policies on this sort of thing.

Is it Graphite Grey ? It could have been my old one....

No, I haven't bought and if I did, it would be leased in a years time. Just investigating options...

As Octygone has already stated - Anything that is an optional extra supplied by the manufacturer does not need to be declared to the insurance company. If you want peace of mind then tell them but they will say no charge (unless they are after fleecing you).

directline say yes, declare them but as long as it factory fit then there no charge. when i phoned norwich for a quote they said it was a mod and would charge me extra. they all seem to make it up as they go along I think !

Every insurer is different. Dont assume all insurance firms will automatically cover factory fit options without declaring them.

Mine balanced out mostly, with curtain bags adding £50. But then they were £150 cheaper than the next that didnt charge at all, so mustnt grumble too much.

They charged you for an added safety feature....

Assuming it's down to the hefty replacement cost in the event of a shunt.

I would (and do) declare everything. That way they can have no excuse to try and wriggle out of paying if I do have a shunt. Always better to be safe than sorry with these things. this means I declare my 18" wheels, rear parking sensors and climate control up grades on my VRs.

When I got mine...I declared that I opted for ESP, and they said that car would be classed as modified and upped the insurance by 1k (The initial quote was around 1k as well).

So told them to forget it, and rang them up again and said it was all standard!

As others have said , it will vary from insurance company to company.

Options will make the car more expensive to replace so they would be quite within their rights to ask you to declare them. Some won't charge any extra (or not much) but others will so just go elsewhere

Doesn't this mean you might now not actually be insured?
