Gearbox mounting knock & Jabba tuning

Featured Replies

Hi all. Before someone has a go, I HAVE spent about 45 mins looking through old threads but with no definitive answer, and am hoping someone who has fixed this problem can help me directly....please...for the love of god!!!!

I've got a 55 reg VRS which had a knocking gearbox mount. It was fixed a year or so ago by Dutton Forshaw in Maidstone (who no longer exist) by doing a grease mod to the N/S gearbox mount. It cured the noise completely, much to my surprise as I was sure it was suspension.

Anyhoo...I then had a new gearbox fitted by Sherlodge garage in September as the old one was whining and had some selection problems. As soon as I got it back the mount was knocking again and it was clear whatever mod had been done before had been undone. I went back several times to Sherlodge with them even fitting a new mount but they could not fix it, getting more frustrated each time. I no longer want the monkeys touching my car and want to fix it myself, but I would like to see a copy of the service bulletin so I know exactly what DF did when they fixed it the first time. The gearbox whines worse than the one they replaced but I have had enough and just ignore it. I cannot, however, ignore the knocking as it is soooo loud!

Please...can anyone help?

I live near Rochester in Kent, and would gladly travel to anyone local if they know the fix!

On a lighter note....looking to take the old girl up to Jabba and get a stage one or two done on it. Can anyone advise me on how much difference it makes? Is there noticeably more oomph in gear? I tend to use all the torque and rarely go much above 3500rpm.

Got any group bookings planned in the near future?

Or...would anyone recommend a different route? i.e Superchips.

Any advice on both of these would be greatly received. (especially on the gearbox mount).

Rob.
