Testing a new lens (image heavy).

The Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 VR.

I've been waiting to use this lens in anger and finally managed to have a go of it this weekend. Here's the results.

Thanks.

I'm very pleased with it. I've just got to let my arms/shoulders heel before having another go this weekend. It's not as big as the huge telephoto jobs but it does have a bit of weight to it which I was starting to feel at the end of the day.

A small price to pay for the image quality:thumbup:

Lovely depth of field and focus there. And nice composition. Looks like a good piece of kit!

Have to say.........excellent!!

As I opened the post, I must admit that I thought, here we go again! Reason being, that a lot of us fancy ourselves (inc me) as a bit of a photographer, however more often than not, the photos people post on various forums are no more than joe average happy snaps at best. Harsh maybe, but IMO, honest.

These however, like Scuff's, are at least a class above.

Lance

Very nice :)

I've been toying with getting the 200mm f/2.0 VR. But it's a lot of wonga ;)

Need to rent it for a weekend and see how I get on with it. Out of interest, Chris, have you bought it or borrowed it from a friend or rented it to try - and if so, where from? ;)

:eek:A class near Scuff:eek::eek: That's a huge compliment for which I thank you. But me thinks I still have many years to go before reaching that standard:)

I like to think i've come a long way since starting my photography journey. I've spent a lot of time reading and just as much time practicing. Don't tell him, but i've even gone over some of Scuff's old posts before now just to remind myself of advice he's given;) I am really wrapped up in it at the mo:thumbup:

Thanks again for your comments.

I bought it.

I was going to rent a copy just to see if it was anygood for me but after reading the many reviews I just thought sod it and grabbed one.

The price hike pushed me into buying quick. I heard the 70-200 could go up to £1800 this month, don't know how true that is but it certainly has shot up since Nov last year which was when I first started lusting after it. £1150 back then:mad:

It's not an easy lens to find either, I made many phone calls before finding it here AP - Homepage - Park Cameras Online I normally buy from Warehouse Express but they haven't had one in stock for ages.

I'm now saving for the 24-70mm f2.8, that's if swmbo doesn't kill me first:D

Hi Chris

Blimey, thanks for the compliments :o

Once you start getting into the 'pro grade' lenses, you will not want to go back. Whatever you do, don't stick one of the wide aperture teles on....... You think the 70-200 2.8's are sharp... those teles are on another level entirely. (both in price and weight).

Your lens looks good, and you seem to have got the processing about right too. May I humbly suggest that they are very very slight oversharpened for the web. You seem to be getting the hang of the technical side, now comes the hard bit - Seeing and composing creatively, now that we never really master;)

I hope you do not mind me adding to your thread. Here is a shot from a 'bendy' prime shot the other day. All PP in Lightroom. A bit arty, I know.

Hi Graham, long time no see.

Thanks for taking the time to post, you are welcome to post in my threads anytime, in fact, i'm honored you have (**** lick:rofl:)

Thanks for the advice, RE sharpening. I have a habit of looking at the image at around 30% rather than 100%. In fact someone metioned the same as you over at............dare I say it to you?............The Noink cafe:rofl::rofl: In fact you have told me off about it before:O

I have certainly noticed a difference with the 70-200 ie image quality and the fact images shot with it require a lot less PP sharpening, I will defo take what you have said on board and use a little less, plus look closer before doing any PP.

Yes I am becoming a large aperture junkie. I am craving more 2.8's and lower:cool::D

RE your "arty" image, what can I say? Just another stunning capture. I wonder if I'll ever churn out stuff like that. I like to think of the Photographer as the Golfer chassing the hole in one:D Maybe i'll get one some day:thumbup:

Keep the advice coming, I really do value & appreciate it.
