Koni FSD's H&R vs KW v2's?

Featured Replies

I have a problem that i could do with peoples opinions on whether i should change my suspension or not.

Currently running Koni/H&R set-up which is a big improvement over the standard set-up but i'm used to this set-up now and would like even better handling.

I have just got a set of KW v2's and i'm thinking of changing over to this set-up now or will wait till next year when hopefully my car will only be used for weekend/track fun.:)

The only problem i have is that i sometimes find the Koni set-up can be a little hard on the crap roads/lanes near my house.

Anybody who has gone from the Koni's to a coilover set-up how did the ride alter and how hard are they with everyday use.

I cant really help you on the advice side first hand but i would gladly take the H & R springs off your hands. If you want to sell them & seporate them from the FSD's that is:thumbup:

What I would say is the garage who fitted the FSD's said coilovers aren't as harsh as you would expect. Maybee someone from here who lives local could take you out in thier car who has coilovers and feel it first hand.

I went from FSD's to KW3's and, as the KW3's have the extra option of both bump and rebound adjustment, together with height adjustment, so there is so much scope to adjust it to your own preference.

They can be as hard or soft as you like, and for a while I ran mine fully slackened off, and still found them to be better that the OEM shocks.

I think from memory the KW2's only have either bump or rebound, but not both together, I do know they have height adjustment?

So there is scope to adjust, but be warned on the KW2's the rears are a git to adjust, as you have to detach the top mount, and compress the damper fully and turn either left or right to adjust it, the KW3's are similar, but you use a small spanner instead of having to fully compress the unit.

I have had FSD's and HR springs and moved to Weitec Coil overs. From experience I can tell you that if you find the Koni HR set up harsh you are going to find the Coilovers harsher, Although this does depend how to adjust the colovers to a certain extend as Beretta states. If you set then on minimal drop you may find them ok. Most of the folks on here that have gone coilovers either use the cars for the odd track days or just happen to prefer the tighter and more precise feel of the car with them on and the ability to adjust them. I personally do not have any issue with harshness of the coilovers as most of my cars have either run lower or stiffer at some point.

I agree wi BOWDERS1 mate, I got the Weitecs too and they are the same as the KWv1s with fixed damping. When I was thinkin of gettin coilovers done I posted something adn was told to stay away from the v2, cant remember y mate.

IIRC the v3 even on the softest setting is still pritty hard, If you like softness mate get the street or comfort kit? as coilovers are norm the harder way to go.

I love the feel of mine but meens that I drive slow on sh1tty roads thats all, but try not to drive on them when pos.

If you got the kit mate and a few hr on a weekend just get them on and see what you think, if you dont like them then a few hr later it can be back to normal. it may take you a week or so to get used to the choppyness and the fact it goes down a hole rather than jus bump a bit. if you understand that lol

all the best

Going to way up things and hopefully have a go in a car with KW set-up to help me decide what i should do.

Another option is sell the KW V2's and Koni/H&R set ups and buy the KW v3's.

Dont think even KW recommend the v2's for the Octavia. Sure I read that on their site once.

Think I understand what you mean. swmbo has a Clio 182 with Cup pack and like you say it goes down the hole rather than just a bump like my fabia. Funny thing is we both agree overall the Clio is much more comfortable to drive despite it being alot stiffer.

Just found the thread and i know what your saying.

The thing is the V2's are stainless at least and the main reason i got them they came at a good price.

Just got to decide what to do.....and may even sell both my set-ups and buy the V3's.:)

Might be worth contacting Stuart. He use to run v2's on his old 4x4 before changing to v3's.

When I was looking to put KW's on my old Octy vRS, I was also told to avoid putting KW2's on the car, and went for KW3.

Also bear in mind that the dampers on the KW2's are made by Koni.

I know Andyrew has KW2's on his car, and I think DaveU might have had them on The Beast ?

I have koni fsd's and H&R springs, and like you sometimes find them abit hard on certain roads, i know that if i went to coilovers i'd love them to begin with but would drive me mad at the end of the day and would probaly have to end up driving slower then before on crappy roads, I think for **** roads we have in england i'd stick with the koni/h&r set up mate, just my opinion though.
