Cruise control not working properly on my vRS

Featured Replies

According to the manual, once I've set a speed and engaged the CC, it should maintain that speed. When I press the accelerator and speed up, it's supposed to go back to this speed when I let go. It doesn't.

It also should disengage the CC when I press the clutch or brake, and again it should resume when I release the pedals. It doesn't.

In both cases, I have to press the button on the end of the stick to turn the CC back on.

Is there a reason for this, is it an option I can change with vagcom?

Are you saying that if you brake or dip the clutch, the car tries to accelerate to maintain a preset speed? That sounds dangerous. How do you stop it?

It does not automatically resume the speed when you release the pedals. Once you release the brake/clutch, you need to flick the resume button on the front of the stalk for it to resume back to the speed it was going before. (or that's how it should work anyway)

I'm just describing what it says in the handbook. The accelerator one is the pain, but also changing gear makes the clutch/brake noticeable. (Although changing gear obviously defeats the point of CC)

Anyway surely an ecu should be able to determine between emergency braking/the stall of trying to pull off at 70mph after stopping and thus know when to disable CC?

Thanks for your answers guys, and they do make sense, I just wondered why it didn't work as described in the manual - it's either a mistake or a mistranslation, and it isn't the first one in the manual in either case. (I probably should've thought more before posting, especially as I'm a physics graduate/teacher. My excuse is I'm tired!)

I barely get to use CC anyway... My bigger concerns are: a) the lack of a dedicated clock, especially one visible to the passengars, I liked my 306's central clock. B) the fact that front washers and rear wash/wipe are not independent of each other (this annoys me as I often have to clean both) and c) the damn reverse. Coming from the 306, it was easy to distinguish, but in the vRS, if I forget anywhere it will always be in the car park, I've had too many near misses to count. In fact I almost drove it into a nice octy vrs when i went to pick the car up from the dealer on the first day!

Or is it the French thing, Pull stalk towards you whilst turning the knurled control on the the stalk to simultaneously wash both screens?

On the French cars it tends to be a dial that you use to either do front or rear, you cant do both at the same time. You can however do that on the Fabia.

CC resumes if you dont touch brake or clutch, I use it all the time when I stick the CC on a 'sensible' speed, and then when I see I might end up boxing someone in by overtaking slowly, nudge up the speed a bit by accelerating a little, then dropping back into left lane and let the CC resume the speed.

If I end up having to brake or dip clutch, it usually means it is a good time to either reduce the set speed, or to just leave the CC off as traffic does not allow it to be used.

If it does not disengage, deffo get it checked out and I would recommend not using your CC, as that is dangerous.

Imagine braking in a motorway tailback, slowing down to a standstill... now imagine the horror on your face if CC resumed itself & tried taking you from a standstill back to 70mph when the car in front is only doing 20mph?? Once the speed builds back up & you're in a good gear... just press RES & let CC do its' thang! :)

HTH?

The missus dad's Galaxy does that! Something to do with where the control box is positioned - it gets full of water and goes mental! Suffice to say he doesn't use the cruise control anymore!! lol.

Mine does. If you read the small print you'll find it depends how long you speed up for. If your just overtaking one or two cars on the motorway it should work OK. If you speed up for a more prolonged period of time the cruise control will switch off.

As posted above, pressing the brake or clutch disengages the cruise control. Don't know what part of the manual you were reading to suppose otherwise - I haven't read mine since I first got the car, but I'm fairly certain that I remember reading that pressing the brake or clutch would disengage the cruise control.

It's the french thing, in all the cars I've driven previously, you could turn the stalk to control the rear wiper, and push/pull to control the front, so you could wash the front and rear windscreens at the same time. In the fabia, because the stalks don't turn (Although I'm kinda used to the lights now - but the fact that I can't have the rear fog lamp on without the fronts being on is also annoying) then you can either wash the front windscreen or the back but not both at the same time, you have to do one then the other (or if you were using the rear windscreen, and then you wash the front. the rear one is turned off till you turn it on again)

Just the little things...
