Taxi meter

Featured Replies

We're not sure yet, only a few people aloud to calibrate meters here and I can't get hold of them till monday.

Meter is in and is definetly picking up a speed signal. if it's turned off, it will come on as soon as car moves. We will know for sure when it's calibrated. Doing a few random things like turning on over night when car is locked and showing tariff error message.

All calibrated and working this morning. So if someone tells you that you need a can bus box, don't believe them.

My meter is an old sheriff wayfarer, the speed signal was taken from pin 9 on the back of the dash cluster. There is no wire in the plug, but there is a pin on the dash. So you just put a new wire in the pin 9 location on the plug and this will give you your speed signal.

Big thanks to car 67 on here!

When you say 9 pin, do you mean the radio ISO block using the white *iirc* wire?

Don't take it from the radio, you will need a can bus box for that. It's Pin 9 on the plug going into the back of the dash cluster (speedo/rev counter).

If I eventually get one I'll call you with a picture of the cluster, and hopefully you will be able to draw an arrow on the one thats required.

Did the meter guy say it was because of the car or because of the age of the meter?

Mines a reasonably new Aquilla model so it may still hook to the radio, where did you feed from in your old Superb?

Was a long time ago in the old car, but think it was the radio. My meter is quite old so i'm sure you'll be fine with yours. It's no drama if you have to do it from dash cluster.

Bumping up an oldie

I'm about to go get me a Superb again and this time I have a Sony DD aftermarket unit which has a Connects 2 iso can loom on it, the can loom has a can box on it that provides illumination, pulse and reverse on it, so I'm hoping the pulse will be fine for my meter so one I can fit it myself and two not have to dig the clocks out like I had to on the Passat, I'll update if the deal goes ahead.

My rear ash tray is full of them, but you have given me an idea, where the arm rest slides forward you could get one of those card holders that has a rear protruding base and slide it under or lift the lid and use number plate double sided tape to keep it in place

Get one of these and put a hole in both ends, cut a strong elastic and poke it through and put a knot in the ends then just lift the arm rest and slide it to the rear, close the lid and bobs your auntie

Scrub that not coming back after all, Skoda dealer thinks he's Ebenezer Carr (tight & funny) so it's all off and so am I away from VAG and their vulture culture dealer network, two bites of the cherry is enough for me,

Suggested I'd clocked my car and that's why the px was so low, wasn't low round the corner at Vauxhall though, they offered smack on what is a px figure to prep to re-sale, i.e 75% of what they'd screen it later.

well i have been taxiing most of my days and i have mostly used sherrif meters and they have never let me down! i now have a digitax meter and it too is working fine, can assure you allot of the trade world wide uses the digitax and it is a very good meter,

as for installing it, i would take it to a meter agent, if you are not sure fitting a meter is not a DIY job

My Halda is 18 years old works fine, never had a problem with it, in any of the cars its been fitted to

I had the older one 24 years ago, the LCD one, I have to admit I had no issues with it and liked the style of it but my agent won't touch them due to Halda themselves and he says REM and Digitax are no good, the Sheriffs were good meters back in the day, we're on calander control now (thx to the tarriff button jockies)
