Front indicator bulb?

Featured Replies

:confused:I’d like to change the indicator bulbs to silvered ones. I have done the rears and the front near side can be done, just, but how on earth do you get to the front off side one. Its impossible to get my hand in to turn the mounting. Is there a special tool for this?

You don't need a tool, just hands ;)

Turn signal light (at the front)

– Open the bonnet.

– Turn the lamp holder © to the left and remove

the lamp holder with the light bulb.

– Replace the defective light bulb.

– Insert the lamp holder with light bulb into the headlight. Secure the

lamp holder by turning it to the right until it locks in place.

I've changed mine with Osram Diadem (blue when off)...

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. You must have smaller hands than me, I cant even get my fingers to the part that turns on the opposite side of the car to your photo.

So, I assume you have really big hands :)

Don't try changing the side lamps, this will be a torture for you... ;)

The indicator bulb holder (circled in yellow) is way easy accessible then the side lamps...

Hi,

Yes, that side is easy, but there is something in the way on the other side!

Yes...

And diesel engine has more stuff under the bonnet than petroleum Fabia & Roomsters

On the other side, I just remove the active carbon filter to reach there...

Diesels might be more tricky...

Good luck :)

If you look at the far left of the attached photo, the item in front of the expansion vessel is right in the way!27617.attach

If you are buying silver indicators, do noy buy the Silvertec ones from Halfrords, I have read that they are dangerously crap. The Osrams are slightly blue (see above pic) and the Philips ones I think are clear when off.

I think that's the next mod that I will do to my Furby.

Hi,

When you do change the bulbs, please let me know how you get on with the near side one.

Remember, I have a Mk 1 Fabia and they look quite easy to change. I have already changed my headlight bulbs for Philips VisionPlus (50%) dipped and Osram Nightbreaker (90%) mains. You CAN tell the deference, especially with the Nightbreakers, as I ran uprated in the N/S and OEM in O/S for a while. They were a bit fiddly to change especially the O/S but I managed OK.

I think if the Indicator bulbs are a bit tight then probably use pliers or long handled (water pump) pliers to twist them out. I have just found where I read the Silvatec ones are so poor Silver indicator bulbs?? - ScoobyNet and Philips Silver Vision Vs Silvatec - ScoobyNet

I've been running with the Silvatec's from new and have not had any problems. So dont discount them!

And before you comment, No i didn't buy them from Halfrauds.

The problem lies with the bulb type not the brand in general.

Silvatec are absolutely sh!t and dangerous on the newage wedge fitment.

Cannot be clearly seen during daylight as the silver coating is very thick.

Seemed OK on classic offset pin fitment though

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your reply.

Am I correct in assuming you have a Fabia I, in which the front indicators are quite easy to change. I'd like to know how to get to the front drivers side in a Fabia II tdi.

thanks.

  • 1 year later...

I was looking at this old thread as I have just invested in a set of silvertec bulbs, both front and rear, for my Greenline... (From Halfraud's) :giggle:

I found them quite easy to fit and looked nice in the lens' with the signal both off and on. No problem with visability on these lamps and a big visual improvement over standard amber bulbs. Not had a good look at them in the dark, yet but expect them to be fine. I assume the life of the bulbs will be compramised a little, due to the coating but in such a new car, with good wiring/earthing, etc, they should last a few years! B)

My next step is to change the headlight bulbs... my car has the d-e module thingumy-jig! :giggle: Not sure what they mean by that!
