Dell Mini9 using internet from Nokia N96 over wi-fi?

Featured Replies

Last time I used a laptop and a phone for internet access it was using infrared!

Any ideas how/if this would work?

:)

You can use the phone as a modem to access GPRS/3G/HSDPA but I'm pretty sure there's no way of piggy-backing onto the Wi-Fi connection.

Is that what you're trying to acheive? Or have I misinterpreted your question?

if you want to do it over wifi:

buy an app called joikuspot which will make the phone act like a wi-fi accesspoint.. i bought this and use it to get fast 3g internets on my iphone and AAO via my Innov8 as blutooth is too slow.

or just use the cable, and one of the options in the nokia pc-studio is "connect to the internet" which when configured is a one-click solution.

I would reccomend joikuspot though, only 15euros.. there is a free version but that is slower, unprotected and hijacks the browser every other page.

Yep.. works great for me. get about 3meg internets in manchester, and around 2 everywhere else.

It does drain the battery quickly on the sammy though.. dunno how itll be on the nokia, but theres settings to get it to shut-off when the battery drops to a certain level

Cheers, just downloading now!

How you finding it? I'm using it now whilst sat on the bus as we don't get edge round here lol

Got a similar thing on my G1. Wifi tethering and turns the phone into a 3G router basically.

Mine was free though :D

Will let you know on Friday!

Mini9 arrives then... must get around to prep-ing a slim XP install and ordering an SD card for docs etc.

Should have a look on the dedicated forums.. there will no doubt be a pre-nlite'ed build availalbe from certain sources ;)
