Featured Replies

Hey folks.

Heading up to the Isle of skye for a week next month to see my mum.

She lives in Burnisdale.

Are there any members on or near the Isle of Skye?

I'll take that as a no then.

Just though it might have been nice to meet a member or two up there.

Might be going a couple of places some days while up there too.

Phil

Its nice up there.

I went for a few days a few months ago.

Not much to do but its nice to see.

Lol. Yeh I'm not expecting an action packed trip but will certainly be taking the camera to get some snaps of the lovely scenary!

I'm sort-of nearby...Isle of Lewis, bit further to the north-west, and a ferry trip away. Got my easter holidays all booked up though :(

Done a fair bit of sailing around Skye, stunning place

Of sheep, sheep, sheep and more sheep.............not forgetting sheep........:D

( have a nice trip )

Skye is beautiful. I went a few years ago and loved it.

I really need to get up to Skye, been watching a programme on the telly recently and the scenary is cracking, one of my future summer hols me thinks.

You mean over Easter Phil? I'm only a ferry trip away, but will be on holiday myself then!

Can highly recommend a Guest house at Kyle of Lochalsh called the Pipers Lodge.

Portree is nice, the Isles inn there does good food and its a cracking road from the bridge up to Portree until it gets to single track that is!!

It's the week before easter. Going up on the 4th april and heading back on the 9th/10th.

I'm passing through on the 7th, but I've got most of a drive ahead of me. Then on the 10th I'm making for Bradford!

Poor you! :P

Well if I see you on me travels (as we will probably be going for drives etc to places) I will give you a wave!

Phil

Do you know what route you're taking Phil ?

Am sure some of us could organise a small meet on your way home or something. :)

Pretty much how I'd do it except that instead of getting on the A/M898 and M8 there, I'd do this It means taking some slightly slower looking roads, but avoids about 2 miles of first or second gear crawling between the M77 and and the South end of the Kingston Bridge

Think I got what you were getting at but that map you linked to was exactly the same as mine! lol

Is it going along the A82 then joining the M8 at junction 18? That seems to make more sense to me.

So is there anywhere nice to stop on the way there/back? Besides Dumbarton Esso for fuel of course! lol

Phil

Well you're passing Loch Lomond etc...always nice to see.

I'm not 100% up on what there is to do over in the west, so i'm not best to advise.

But on the motorway back down, there's Moffat (about 1 mile off the M74 Jcn 15)

Then there's Gretna etc further down, but not been there in ages.

Ken is probably your man to advise on more Northern places to stop i would think.

You didn't zoom in enough on the Glasgow area Phil. Your map had you going over the Erskine Bridge to pick up the M8 at Erskine; mine goes through the West side of Glasgow to avoid a known bottleneck that could take you half an hour to do 2 miles, but keeps you on urban dual carriageway as far as possible.

And Johnny's right; I know this route like the back of my hand! ;)

Ah right... I see it now! Thanks.

Will see how we get on and if there's somewhere we fancy stopping on the way back we will!

Just too bad petrol will have gone up by the time we go... will cost us loads more!
