When do I use quick detailer?

Featured Replies

OK, so I have gathered up a reasonable assortment of cleaning goodies now!

I bought a detailing kit from cleanyourcar.co.uk (Collinite 476s and Winter Carlack Selant Kit), which came with car-lack, collnite 476s, 2 microfibre towels, applicator pad and a foam applicator. I've never waxed a car before so should be fun!

Also got a Sonus sheepskin wash mitt, to add to my Megs microfibre mitt. And decided to try some Chemical Guys Quick Detailer.

I normally use the TBM with Megs gold class shampoo, then dry with an Autoglym chamois, and T-cut off any stuck on bits or marks (I only do this once or twice a year), then use Autoglym resin wax on a microfibre cloth to shine her up. Also Autoglym products for glass and black plastics/rubbers.

I'm just not sure wether to use the detailer as I'm drying the car with the chamois (before car-lack and collnite), or to spray it over the collinte and wipe off with a clean microfibre cloth as a final stage?

Any advice would be great on this, cheers

P.S. I recently got a pressure washer, and plan to snow foam the car as a pre-wash once I have a better lance etc.

Personaly, I only use the Speed Detailer as a "quick tart up " between polishing and waxing, or as lube when claying.

Others will have their own methods. Baker21 is the residnet expert, he'll see you right

Give the car a quick squirt all over after rinsing and before drying, aids the drying and reduces chances of water marks. Use as a lube for claying, use for bird poo removal between washes.

DO not use T-cut, much better off claying, and using a tar remover such as Tardis or megs body solvent.

I've only ever used it after a quick rinse at a show when I didn't have time for a full polish

There a few different applications for the Quick Detailer Spray and it has it's place in many areas of detailing...........

As has been stated it can be used as a drying aid, so apply after you have rinsed your car while water is on the car but I would loose the Chamois as this will infact scratch your paintwork and invest in a Waffle Weave Drying Towel or equivalent but dependant on the Quick Detailer being used this will effect your dried look.

It can also be used to act as a lubricant when claying but again some Quick Detailer's perform better than others.

Quick Detailer can be used after a polishing stage and before a waxing or sealing stage but it can also be used after the waxing and sealing stage.

So in summary, you can use it a lot but remember that less is more...........

Thanks alot guys, I'll lose the t-cut and chamois then!

I'll replace it with some clay and a big waffle towel. You live and learn.....

Looks like the spray is fairly durable so I'll just try it out and see what suits.

Photos will follow!

Forgot to ask, whats so bad about T-Cut then?

Is it very aggressive and removes the clearcoat or something?

Is the tar remover mentioned just a less abrasive alternative?

T-Cut has it's place in the 'Detailer's Kit' and if most are honest they all started with it but T-Cut will leave more marks on the paintwork than there was before you started unless you can go over the area with a DQ or Rotary in which case there is little point of using T-Cut in the first place.............:(

AS Tardis is a great product but you need to be careful where your using it and how much you apply as it's quite aggresive but works wonder on wheels and lower sills for removing Tar............

I don't thinkl T-Cut has changed in all the years it's been available! AG Paint Renovator & Restorer is a good alternative.

I've only started using Tardis and it is very good on wheels and sills. Just wash it off properly.

Baker21 - do you find adding a little distilled water to Megs Last Touch stops it from streaking?

I haven't suffered from Megs LT streaking? I just dillute to the reccomended dillution ratio on the bottle but never had it streak on me............

Diluting Megs LT with distalled water just seems to 'sit better' with it than normal tap water.

Your probably right mate but I guess it also depends on how hard the water is in your area?
