Cruise problem....

Featured Replies

Scanned with VAGCOM, no faults (apart from radio) found which is good of course but doesnt explain why my cruise doesnt work. Anyone know if there is a fuse on the octy for cruise or any ideas what else it might be? Thought it would be brake switch but no fault found by VAGCOM like I said :)

I dont know if the brake switch would show as a fault on VAGCOM - considering the signal would not be 'wrong' as such

Clutch switch, brake switch and all the stalk functions can be found in measure block values (block 9 rings a bell for some reason, could be wrong though).

How would I get to that point on VAGCOM please Mr Lummox? Bit of a Noob to the Vag currently (VAGCOM that is, not Vag as in the Lady bits :o) )

01 Engine

08 Measured values/block

channel 009 or maybe 115 arond that area, have a look.

Looing for about 8 0's or 1's that will change when operating the switches.

Is it the same story on VAGCOM as opposed to VCDS mate?

VCDS is the new name for VAG-COM.

Something like -

VAG

COM

Diagnostic

System

button could be duff? Mine's needed a pretty firm push from day one.

Have you checked your brake lights?

I'm sure I read somewhere that if a bulb has gone (or is faulty) CC doesnt work.

Yes mate, checked all the basics - as for pushing button harder :- will try it later and see. It may well be the stalk is gone but unfortunately Skoda thought better of putting an indicator light on the dash to show Cruise is active so it will have to be a trial and error till I find the problem!

I don't think you lose cruise just because a brake light blows, but if the brakelight switch fails you lose all the brakelights so I'd not be surprised if you also lost cruise, since it depends on the brakelight circuit for one of its cancel signals.

Are any of the engine lights flashing?

  • Author

No engine lights flashing and car drives fine. Just to check ,how do you actually set the Cruise working in the first place as I thought it was switch it to on the push the button in on the end of the stalk to lock your speed but Mike at Motech says you need to switch it on and hold the slider switch on to lock speed? I tried both and neither seemed to work but will check with you guys and try again to make sure....

From the sound of it you have the old stalk which is apparantly unreliable so it may be as simple as that.

Which one is it of these 2?

No prob, I will get discount off that anyway - being in the trade n all :o)

Is it a simple job or steering wheel off jobbie?

but if the brakelight switch fails you lose all the brakelights

Not so.

The brake light switch actually has two switches in it (hence four pins) and it can fail on one side meaning the lights still work but the EC doesnt get its signal.
