The mystical fabia venting button

Featured Replies

Can anyone confirm where this thing is ?

I have undone the fuel filler cap on the Fabia vRS and about the 3 o'clock position and about an inch in from the neck of the filler cap is a metal switch, is this the venting button that everyone talks about ?

If this is how do I vent it ?

If I use this to fill up do I run the risk of spilling diesel when driving off ?

Thanks Ivan

Should be - wedge the fuel filler nozzle behind it and push gently - you should hear a hiss as air is vented from the tank. You can then squeeze in a little more fuel. Mine has never spilt any (it's petrol though, and an Octy).

Any pictures of this?

For yours, or of a Fabia one?

Either I suppose would do. I'm just wondering what the thing looks like as I can't recall seeing anything remotely assembling a switch of some sorts

I'll try and get a photo tonight if I remember.

I'm going out to get a picture of this vent! BRB in 5 minutes with a piccie!

Here's the best shot I could get = damn camera doesn't like up close piccies! :(

I think the vent little thingy pops out from the sort of 1 o'clock / 2 o'clock position - doesn't seem obvious in this piccie, so maybe only pops out when the fuel nozzle goes in, to kill the pump when the air return thingy happens. :D

Here's a rough diagram of the Octavia one (edited to show you LIFT the button, not press it):

Jason did you get some funny looks when you where taking the picture ?

I can just imagine the comments "Oh look at that young man trying to stick a phone in the fuel tank" :D:rofl:

It did look a little odd - but I was using a normal digital camera - and thankfully as most people are working this week, but me, the street is very quiet! :D

 Hard to tell when you're looking from up high with the fuel nozzle in the way ;)

Hmm, shall have to give my petrol cap a good inspection next time I fill up :D

Just don't let anyone catch you in the process as it could look at little strange.

And you don't think driving around for 2 days with a white bonnet stripe is strange? Trust me, I'm used to weird looks ;)

Ewwwwwwwww...why can't some people use a toilet like everyone else, eh?

That little button you are talking about IS the vent, i saw some posts earlier in the year, and next time i filled up, attempted to PRESS it with the fuel nozzle but that didnt work. @ the next fill up i caught it with the nozzle & it levered into the neck of the of the pipe.

Have found that if i fill up to clicking of the fuel filler nozzle, then use the nozzle to move the button, can't get anymore in if i have done this previously. :(

I've managed 50 litres usingt the little buttin on the side.

I've edited my diagram to show you have to lift the button, not press it.

I believe that is lifted for you to be able to fill up the expansion tank that is in the car.

So using the button when filling up the car on a cold day is going to be a problem if the weather then gets hot?

I used to just press the button in with the end of the nozzle after the pump had clicked. I used to get about another tenner in, give or take...

Of course that is the risk. Expansion tank is there to take up the expansion so I would not do it during the summer when temperatures get hot unless you know you are going to burn off a few litres of fuel straight after filling up.
