The mystical fabia venting button

Featured Replies

So I was filling up today and waited for the pump to click of and then held the button in with the nozel and continued to fill up until I could see fuel in neck. I've done this before but by repeatedly filling and releasing air until boredom kicked in but held it in this time as someone said in some post somewhere on here.

Anyway when I removed nozel I dripped a bit so after the short journey home I got a cloth to clean it down and it looked much worse than it was. The cap is on correctly but I noticed a little valve looking thing on the outside of the cap at the bottom of the rubber surround. I cant say I've ever noticed it before. I assume its to catch spills, can fuel get out as well as in?

Comments plz. :-D

Think it's just to drain any drips or overfill onto the ground rather than down the side of the car.

Wow. A Sept 2004 thread. Well done for kicking such an old thread back to life again. :D

Don't overfill the tank too often, or the ventilation might go wrong...

Having driven to work this morning was no sight of anything I guess the drippes had just splaaad in the wind. (yes that is the technical term).

I think I'll take the tip about not ovefilling too often tho.

I'd use the vent method only if you are planning a long return trip of say 400+ miles.

There's no point using the vent method for daily commuting because you'll just be driving around with extra fuel in your tank - which is heavier and so uses more fuel in itself!

I've 'vented' and then driven on the motorway and I noticed that the fuel gauge did not start to move until I'd done over 100 miles!

The remaining miles reading was around 575 when I used the vent method . . .

Ha ha, and it was not me who resurrected it again!!!
