312's VS uprated 288's - Discuss

Featured Replies

recent 40k service has highlighted worn pads and discs all round.

given my reading on here the rears will be a simple replacement like for like.

Up front however I am looking at 312's but is a full OEM 312 set up much better than uprated discs n pads in 288mm?

and is avoiding buying calipers and carrier really going to save me that much anyways?!

Just do it - you know you want to!

Many threads on here. Surely a 288 uprated set is going to cost a fair chuck so you might as well just go for the 312's

i asked a similar question a few weeks ago

personally if i was looking at uprated discs id just get the 312 setup

i went for uprated 288s and have found on the road they do the job very well indeed! Depends on how you drive i guess, if your flat out most of the way driving like dangerous dave them 312s would be a good idea!

I've got 288 brakes with Turbogroove dics and EBC pads all round, work awesome, but don't expect much change from £450...

may as well fit 312's, once I acquired the calipers and carriers though I ended up going all the way and fitting uprated discs and pads but seriously awesome braking!

I had Awesome price up the same spec as per your signature and nearly fell off my chair at the price!

Waiting on VAG mechanic cousin to come back with OEM parts at staff discount prices

You can get all 4 discs and pads brand new for £200 on ebay !!!

the problem with the brakes on the furby is mainly the design of the standard 288mm calipers... dunno what it is with them but they offer little in the way of feel and are not very progressive..

even just swapping to the golf design calipers on 288mm discs would be better than the standard items... but if you were doing that you might as well go for the 312 carriers and discs anyway lol

Calipers and carriers for 312 = £150-200

OEM quality discs and pads by Mintex or Brembo or similar = £60
